you basically move the scanner by hand over whatever it is you want to scan. if you're pretty steady with your hand then it's great otherwise the scans might turn out a little blurred or stretched/smushed.

Easy to use but on slick surfaces, like counter tops, the item to be copied
slips around unless held properly.
If I have a lot of pictures to scan, I use a two sided tape. This makes it a breeze.
