A great addition to my 30D. I can shoot horizonitally and vertically with equal ease. I no longer have to worry about my battery going out right in the middle of a shoot.

Would not shoot without it
By RainybeetVerified Reviewer from Arizona on 9/4/2007
Pros:
Good Value, Long-Lasting, Sturdy, Vertical Release
Cons:
Comes Loose Often, Unreliable Contacts
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip for many EOS Digital Cameras.:

I love the Canon vertical grips, since they double battery life, allow use of AAs if you somehow use up your standard batteries, add the vertical shutter release for more comfortable shooting, and add heft to the cameras. The vertical shutter release is especially useful on a tripod.

The main problem is that it has to be tightened often, and sometimes you have to remove the batteries and then put them back in to get the camera working.

Rubbish. For showing off only.

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip for many EOS Digital Cameras.:

Very short battery life with AAs. Bulkier than it needs to be. Yes it holds 2 batteries but is it that much hassle to change a battery every 1500 shots? This is for show only I cannot see a practical need for this item. Spend the money on some extra batteries.I am a timelapse photographer, on my last trip to the Himalayas I shot 45,000 photos so I know about heavy battery usage. [...]

Worked great but had to check tightness of attatchment screw every so often. Having two batteries really extended the shooting duration. Works well with just one charged battery, too.

Great for extended power and side controls for vertical shots. Its great to add another shutter on bottom so you dont have to reach around. Currently using it my EOS 30D. Its a life saver when your shooting an all day event. I wouldn't shoot without it.

It does what it is supposed to. With a capacity for 2 batteries, you can shoot for twice as long.

You can also take vertical shots comfortably. Your wrist isn't tweaked and you can hold the camera just as steady as you could in the horizontal position.

This is a great investment, if your shooting weddings or if your a photojournalist for newspapers this is the best item to keep your camera from losing power. Make sure you get two of the lithium batteries and you can shoot pretty much forever 5,000 + shots.

By jkoehVerified Purchaser from Cleveland on 2/12/2007
Pros:

Cons:
Poor fit to 20D body, Rocks unstable
Best Uses:
Long Shoots, Portrait composition, Professional Cameras
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip for many EOS Digital Cameras.:

I prefer a grip for camera balance with heavy lenses. This grip duplicates the shutter and AE lock buttons for vertical composition. It holds two batteries and AA alkalines in a pinch.
Adaption to body is poor, there is a gap, the grip can be easily rocked back and forth even when fully tightened down. I used some layers of tape to take up the gap between the camera and grip and this stabalized things. It is not just my particular grip and camera, the fit problem is all over the Canon DSLR forums. However, no regret in purchasing, it lives on the camera.

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip for many EOS Digital Cameras.:

Maybe I got a lemon but I have some problems with the internal battery contacts. The camera registers as the battery being dead but there is still plenty of charge. When placeing the same battery before recharging directly into the camera it works fine.

Use Caution
By PhotoVerified Purchaser from Alabama on 2/6/2007

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip for many EOS Digital Cameras.:

One of the interior gears is made of plastic.
Very easily strips out if you are trying to get it tight enough to maintain the electrical contacts. For the money all gears should be metal. I made this purchase in October of 2005, stripped out in November 2006. If they have since begun using all metal gears, great! If not I would advise buying a lesser brand name and lesser priced grip.

Bought this a couple of months after I got the camera and wish I bought it with it. The increased shooting life with two batteries and the addition trigger position and grip make this a great addition. Even with the added weight to the camera this is one of the best features as far as fit and function for the Canon

Comments about Canon Canon BG-E2 Battery Grip for many EOS Digital Cameras.:

This product was purchased with my camera, so I have never used it without. It gives the camera a nice hefty (read heavy) stability and the additional grip surface and shutter release are good reasons alone to purchase it. The additional run time with 2 batteries is a great bonus.

Makes handling easier for portrait shooting and all-around good feel to the camera. Excellent battery power for longer shooting time. Adds alittle weight, but well worth it. A must have add-on.
