Over all this is a very nice camera. The dynamic range does work, but you need to under expose as the high dynamic range setting only picks up details in bright areas. Unfortunately, the high dynamic range setting introduces a little more noise, but it’s not too bad.
The dynamic range and the vivid colors makes the camera very good for outdoor scenery. You can even set the camera to emulate Velvia, but they don’t specifically tell you this in the manual.
You will be fighting this camera for sports, action, and wildlife as it is very slow writing to the card. When you do get the pictures however; they are very sharp and low noise, even at high ISO.
The camera has a good feel, with a lot of rubber. All the controls are well laid out. I like the small LCD screen on the back as it tells you the ISO, date and time, and battery life. This keeps the top LCD clean, and you don’t have to spin knobs to find out what ISO you are on.
If I could change one thing, it would be having the ability to wake the camera with more than just the top shutter release! If the camera is idle for a few moments, it shuts down (not off) as all DLSRs do. But the only way to bring it back is tapping the top shutter release. Even the vertical shutter release does not work. This make it very inconvenient when taking pictures in portrait mode, as you need to keep touching the main shutter release every once in a while to wake the camera.
One last note, the auto white balance is not accurate, even the same scene can have different settings.
Overall, I’m glad I purchased this camera; you just need to know that it has very specific uses.
