Comments about Adorama Adorama Accessory Flash Shoe with 1/4-20 Socket:

I needed an adapter to mount a remotely triggered flash to a tripod and thought this item would be a good one. I took the chance in spite of the bad review. I guess the first reviewer was correct.

I had to make a couple of modifications to make it work for me. First, my flash unit (Pentax 360) would not slide in. The gap for the flash shoe was a little too tight. At first I tried prying open the gap which was not enough by itself.

This item also came with a retaining mechanism (to prevent the flash from sliding out). This actually further prevented my flash shoe from sliding in. I ended up removing this retaining piece as well. My flash came with a locking lever so this feature was of no use to me anyway. Removing this piece finally allowed the flash shoe to slide in fully.

Similar to the comments of the other reviewer, one of the three plastic threads were stripped after I did all of this work, ending up using superglue to put it all together.

Even though it is usable, I would not dare use it or a regular height tripod and risk ruining my $200 flash unit. I only use it on my GorillaPod which I use on a table or on the floor.

BTW, the plastic part is actually not a solid piece of plastic, making it more susceptible to potential breakage.

In short, find something else instead of this one.

Comments about Adorama Adorama Accessory Flash Shoe with 1/4-20 Socket:

I bought this for a spare flash shoe to mount on a lightstand if needed. The bottom of the shoe is made of a hard plastic with 3 tiny screws in the top metal plate holding it together. As soon as I tested it by screwing it to a lightstand the screws stripped out when I tried to tighten it slightly. I'm just glad I didn't have flash mounted to it.
