Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

I'm a beginner, so I'm still learning about flash photography. But it's been easy to use so far. I debated heavily on getting this or the 580ex II. Maybe down the line once I get more experience, I'll upgrade. But this flash has been great for me so far.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

Bought this as my primary flash, used it and loved it, opened up the night time photography for me, so much that I figured I needed to get into strobing and now, I also paired it together with a 580exII as a slave, and boy am I loving it, so much I'm considering getting another 430 to run as a 2nd slave unit to get creative lighting

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

Fast Recycle time, well built, TTL is almost always perfectly exposed, easy access to manual controls, simple menu system.
Can only work as a slave flash, it would be great if Canon made smaller master flashes like the 430exII without having to buy the larger 580exII. I really like the physical size as opposed to my 580exII. It really is a must have flash to have in your bag.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

Had the choice of 2 430EXIIs or one 580EXII, knowing I would get 2 pocket wizard TT5s, 2 is better than 1. The 430 handles most situations and will bounce in all directions. It's power enough for great outdoor fill flash, and more manageable, (size), when using a bracket. I do miss the master mode which could control other ETTL flashes.

I must say that before getting this flash, I HATED FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY... After listening to a mentor and researching several sites... I decided to make the purchase. This flash is awesome!!! I bounce light of ceilings/walls etc and create a natural light on my subjects.. this flash has changed the way I shoot completely! Lighting is no longer an issue for me on sets. I was recently shooting a concert and needed a shot of the crowd. I bounced the light off the ceiling in an very large auditorium!! That right there should give you an idea on the power of this flash!

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

I use this flash on my D40 as a 'fill' flash while taking outdoor sports portraits, and LOVE it.

This flash is the perfect combination of size and power. Smaller than the 580 EX, it is easier to pack and carry to a shoot. While not as powerful as the 580 EX, it has more than enough light to create crisp, clear images.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

This unit is not a simple set and forget device. The infrared pannel must be placed to receive the Master Flash's signal, or it does not fire. I would recommend buying some reference texts on Canon Speedlite Flash set-up, as there is only the bare minimal operating information included with the unit.

I bought this flash specifically to improve my holiday photos which always seem to be indoors in less than suitable lighting. It is my first external flash and right out of the box I was able to hook it up quickly and snap a few trial run photos. Very easy to use. So far my evening and indoor pictures have improved dramatically.

I am a semi-pro portrait photographer and I love using this speedlite on location shoots. It works well with my Canon T2i. I had tried an off brand and did not like the option of only shooting in manual only mode off brands only perform in. It is worth going with Canon speedlites when you have a Canon DSLR.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

I first bought this smaller flash to use as the on camera trigger, but didnt realize, this flash CAN NOT trigger multiple flashes.

So...Plan two, use as an additional SLAVE Flash for multiflash setups at weddings and portraits. Works great, steady output, and recycles fast event without the capability of a battery pack (can not use with this flash). Smaller and lightweight to tote around when you are carrying multiple stands with flashes, and works with Radio Poppers. And also can use in camera settings to control the flash output as well.

The flash does very well as a remote slave, and I am very satisifed for the purchase price to add to my group of off camera flashes(580EXII, 550ex, etc).

For an enthusiast, this flash would be great as on camera flash at a good price as well. But for Pros, it does fit the bill for an optional Slave flash.

Perfect first flash if you're looking to start getting into off-camera flashes. I'm primarily a photojournalist, but occasionally do feature or portraiture -- this flash comes in real handy. I highly recommend a diffuser (the cheap plastic cover one is great) and perhaps an off-camera shoe-cord.

Just got the 430 flash to use as a slave unit. When my 580 flash went down during a wedding, I grabed the 430 and started using it to finish off the church shots. I must say it is a very good flash unit. Even though its out put is not as strong as the 580, the 430 will get the job done. I like the smaller size, and its easy to navigate through the menu which makes it easy to set up and start using.
Not only is it good as a slave unit, but its also good as a main flash.

This is the first Speedlite I ever used, and I'm really impressed! The quality, features, and ease of use are all top notch, and there's no hi pitched whine noise between flashes either. I considered several other off brands (Sigma, Nisan) but in the end I really wanted a Canon flash to go with my 500D. I'm very satisfied.

The ONLY criticism I can make is that the flash is pretty heavy, but I suppose that comes with packing everything into such a small package.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

I think this is a great flash... The only flash that would have been better is the 580 ex ii but I hear for the price it isn't worth it and you can get away with the 430, and looking at the specs and using it, I could tell there are differences but not enough to justify spending the extra money. Last 2 comments are: 1. The lady that helped me with my purchase was great, and I will be ordering from Adorama from now on. and 2. I hope I can win that $1,000 because I can think of 2 other things that would help me buy.

Thank you for your time. have a great day!

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

This was my first every ETTL purchase. Prior to getting this we were using an old Canon Speedlight from the 80s. So we were very easily impressed with the power & flexibility of this product! (As I told a few other photographer friends, "It does everything, but talk!")

You definitely need to spend time working with it prior to actual use, but the aperture priority mode (automatic shutter dragging) is a pretty neat deal. Works wonderfully as bounced flash, especially with reflectors.

Highly recommend purchasing a diffuser of some sort. Very powerful output needs it.

You can hardly go wrong with any Canon product. This flash is solid on-camera and works well as a slave. Good recycle time, adjustable outputs, and flexible flash head make this a must-have. The owner's manual will tell you what the buttons do, but you may need other resources to help you get the most out of this flash.

For the money, Canon Flashes don't get any better. I have used the 580ex on a 20D and thought it was great but this is the same or better on a 5D. No complaints. Rechargeable batteries work great in it. The 5D can take pictures a lot faster than this can cycle but you can still hit three in succession.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

This is a near-perfect flash for the hobbyist/enthusiast who needs more than the 220EX, but doesn't need the extra features (mostly directed toward studio use) of the 580EX II and its larger size and higher cost. This is really the maximum size flash I would want on a walk around camera, and it also fits nicely in my camera bag. The auto features practically ensure a perfect fill-flash or night-time photo. I am now experimenting with it for macro shots with a sto-fen diffuser and the flash set to a manual low power. The only derogitory thing I can say is the pan/tilt stops allow a bit of play instead of a firm stop at the desired setting. The entire flash will even turn a little side-to-side when locked in the hot-shoe of my 40D. I am used to the tighter tolerances Canon used in the 1980's, and really notice the slop in today's products.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

This is a very good flash unit for someone who is making a first step up from the on-camera flash. There is a little bit of a learning curve to use it effectively, but even sticking with just E-TTL give noticeably better results. Using an omni-bounce, my indoor portraits look much more natural and flattering.

The one downside is its weight compared to my XTi and the relatively light lenses I have. The flash overbalances the camera, so when wearing the camera around your neck, it always points down. I imagine it would be better with a heavier camera/lens.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

I bought this flash because a friend of mine wanted some portraits done, and while I'm no professional she trusted that I could do the job. While ideally I'd like to use good studio lighting, it wasn't an option. The on-camera flash is essentially useless so I'd been eying up a speedlite. With a little improvising and using both the avilable light and my new flash, the lighting on the pictures came out great. They key is to do as much reading up and practicing with it as you can if you're not familiar with this type of flash. pointing it straight toward someone in a dark room, or even straight at the ceiling, is not going to give you flattering lighting. With this flash you can turn it and angle it and bounce the light off surrounding surfaces in order to get a well lit subject. I used manual settings and found the flash was very easy to use. I'm glad I bought this flash and would definitely recommend it.

The first week I had this flash I let a friend shoot with it. Not paying attention, they took a lot of frames. The next day I had a shoot of my own and the batteries did half way through the shoot. I love having the flash, but needless to say, I'd recommend some good quality rechargeables.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash with Guide Number 141 Feet / 43m at ISO 100 - U.S.A. Warranty:

I bought this due to some poor shots with my fast primes. Sometimes even f/1.4 is not enough! The 420EX II is a great flash. I usually use it for fill lighting. There is no comparison between the pop up flash on your DSLR and a speedlight. The results can be amazing and relatively easy to achieve. Highly recommended for anyone who is not satisfied with their pop up flash. It does add some weight to your camera, but that is to be expected.

I tend to avoid using flash (mostly shoot outdoors) but when I need something stronger than on-camera unit (rebel xsi)this does the job nicely. Comes with quality padded case. Also purchased Sto-fen Omni Bounce due to high recommendations, and am happy with it. My experience with Adorama has been great!

The first time I attached this flash to my camera, it didn't work. Then, I discovered I had inserted it backwards. After turning it around the right way, it still didn't work. Then, I discovered I hadn't turned it on. After turning it on, it still didn't work. Then, I discovered I hadn't properly turned the locking collar. OK - I know I sound like an idiot - my point is, the flash works well and didn't seem the worse for wear in the hands of a complete novice.

I'm quite angry that I didn't reasearch this more, I could have saved myself [$]and gotten the 430EX I. I went with the 430EXII based on the specs here on Adorama, that said it rotated 180 both ways, which it doesn't. Otherwise, I really like it a lot.

I love the smaller size (as compared to the 580EX II).

Recycles very quickly.

The new hotshoe mount is nice too.

I still do not like the buttons on this model. They are not as easy to use as the 580's.

I purchased a Sakar 952AF flash unit which turned out to be the biggest piece of junk that I have ever bought - I could never get a good picture with it no matter what I did and yet it is Sakar's top of the line model. So in in total disgust with the Sakar unit, I purchaced the CANON 430EX II. I have never been happier with a unit, it worked perfectly right out of the box and I have not had one bad picture yet. I have entered enough photo constests to know that this unit will give you award winning pictures. Long story, short - Buy this unit and you will not regret it. Best of all, you can buy a CANON 580EX and use this unit a dependable slave unit.
