Agree with several other reviews... battery tabs break very easily no matter how careful you are!

The Canon CPM-E3 AA Battery Magazine for the CP-E3 Compact Battery Pack does the job that it is designed to do... recycles the 580EX flash really quick and gives increased flash shooting ability. The only “Con” is that no matter how careful that I was, after reading other reviews, one of the battery clips broke off when I was changing the batteries. I am afraid to think what would happen if I ever drop it... I guess is that it would break like glass. SHAME on Canon for making it so flimsy, but it does work for quick flash charging and extended flash shoots. I would have given it a 5 star rating it the construction was sturdier.

The plastic used to manufacture the battery pack breaks too easily, especially the clipc that hold the batteries in. The slider that holds it in the housing also breaks easily. They need to redesign this so it lasts longer. Make sure you buy a bunch of the battery packs, because you will go through them somewhat faster than you would expect from a Canon product.
Comments about Canon Canon CPM-E3 AA Battery Magazine for the CP-E3 Compact Battery Pack.:
I wholeheartedly agree with the previous 3 reviews -- the cheap plastic used for the battery magazine in this product is simply not worthy of the Canon name. I'm buying a second magazine because ALL the tabs on the original magazine have broken off with normal use. That is, the plastic tabs that hold the batteries in place break off even when one is very carefully inserting or removing batteries. I've resorted to pushing the batteries out of the magazine by using the finger-sized holes on the underside, and still the tabs break off. One slot now will not hold a battery unless the magazine is completely level; if the magazine is tipped at all ( say, for insertion to its case ), the battery falls out.
Canon could easily fix this annoying problem by requiring the OEM facility to use a better, stronger plastic. I would have been willing to pay $10 more for the battery pack if it were better constructed.
Otherwise, the battery pack is easy to use, lightweight and offers lots of flash-firing power for sports photography and photo journalism.
Comments about Canon Canon CPM-E3 AA Battery Magazine for the CP-E3 Compact Battery Pack.:
Have three of the CP-E3 packs and have had to replace these magazines way too often due to weak plastic battery holder tabs. The tabs break with NORMAL use. The unit can still be used, but reliability becomes an issue due to poor electrical contact resulting from broken tabs. Canon could fix this very easily by just using a stronger material. Otherwise a useful product. Recommend reluctantly as there is no alternative at the moment.

Very convenient and usable product. However, the tabs between the batteries break off on the holder - that's the main reason I am buying a new one. The unit still works with the tabs broken off, but batteries may easily fall out while removing or inserting the holder. I plan to use both since a set of charged batteries can be stored in the alternate unit and quickly interchanged.

Works fine but plastic battery clips break off too easily, unit is still usable, you just have to take care that batteries don't fall out.
