I have two of these and have been using them for about six months; I use them off camera in a three light set-up for fill supplementing an ancient vivitar 283. I fire the vivitar with a remote flash trigger and fire these from the vivitar. They work consistently as described. I get good results in portrait work in a home studio.
However, not for the faint hearted, no directions, if you aren't comfortable with manual settings look elsewhere.
These are great if you want a 'studio' set up without spending too much.

Comments about Digital Concepts Digital Concepts 318-AF Digital Slave Flash with Flash Bracket:
I have two of these and they perform as expected. I use them to boost the range of the built-in flashes of my digital cams and they work well with all the models I have--Canon, Fuji, Kodak and Olympus--which is unusual for an inexpensive slave flash, I think. The recycle time is moderate--not fast, not slow. The output is what you would expect for a two cell flash--again moderate.
The only problem is with the bracket--the camera mounting screw is at least 1/16 of an inch too short for many cameras. The screw catches only the first thread of my Fuji and Canon--which have plastic mounts and have slightly recessed threads. This isn't a problem for me because I have other brackets and longer spare screws/knobs, but other people may (probably will) have a problem with this. So I deducted a star. A longer screw would make this combo perfect in its class and price range.

Comments about Digital Concepts Digital Concepts 318-AF Digital Slave Flash with Flash Bracket:
Right out of the box I hated it. I had never used a slave. I read up, watched a few demo's, and for the next hour took a few hundred test shots all over inside and out. My home is dark and I had gotten sick of dark photos that I had to add fill light on my photo editing software. They tend to distort the color in the final product.
You don't have to mount it on a tripod. Lay it on a shelf, it won't care at all and will still perform perfectly. I got about 15 feet away and it still worked. I had raked my husband over the coals for what I thought was a junk flash. How could it be for that price? I wanted a nikon flash to go with my new camera. Well I may get one later, but I can have a lot of fun for cheap for a while!

Comments about Digital Concepts Digital Concepts 318-AF Digital Slave Flash with Flash Bracket:
I bought this flash to use as a slave with my point and shoot. I saw it on the home page and it looked like just what I needed. Anyway, it does not work; I have tried NiMh and Alkaline batteries. The indicator light goes on but test button does not work. I tried it on a hot shoe of an SLR and I tried triggering it with another strobe - NOTHING WORKS. The unfortunate thing is that I live in Africa and had to have my goods forwarded to me. [...] Please avoid this product.

Comments about Digital Concepts Digital Concepts 318-AF Digital Slave Flash with Flash Bracket:
Though this is intended to enhance a small camera's flash for more powerful output, I use it as a second slave flash for my full size SLR flash. This enables you to easily get more professional, studio-like photos due to having multiple light sources. Very easy to use with most cameras with digital pre-flash, you just select the firing to trigger on with a switch on the back. (1 for manual mode, 2 for other modes, up to 4 if your camera uses multiple flashes for red-eye). Of course this is not a high-quality piece of equipment considering the price, but it doesn't have to be. The included bracket and tripod mount allow it to be mounted to the camera or anywhere you can think of.
