Comments about Sto-Fen Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce for the Sunpak 455, 4500DX, 522, 544 and 555 Flashes.:

Before I bought the Sto-Fen diffuser my Sunpak 4500DX/555 handle flash was mostly used as a bounce flash, indoors. This was because it creates very sharp shadows and is way too powerful for direct flash on close-up photography. Sometimes this meant that the surface I used to bounce from would alter the color of the subject, requiring me to edit the colors in Photoshop.

Since receiving the Sto-Fen diffuser I can now use the flash either direct, or with the head facing up, which maintains the correct color balance. The shadows are softened, portraits are slightly softer, reflections are reduced.

The diffusion spreads out the flash to cover a much wider angle than the bare flash covered. This allows me to shoot at a wide angle setting and not lose the flash coverage on the edges, as was the case before.

I had to adjust for the loss of about 2 stops, but that is no big deal. In most cases that is a good thing, especially in close-ups.

You must have the Sunpak filter holder to use this diffuser on a Sunpak 555/4500DX handle flash unit. The holder snaps onto tabs on the flash head. The diffuser slides into slots in the filter holder, from the top. It cannot fall out the bottom, or blow off in the wind.

The unit is solidly constructed and is not about to break or crack on its own, or from temperature changes. What an excellent value this diffuser is!
