I'm not sure why you really need it but it fits fine, looks good and keeps the SB900 firmly in place in my Nikon D300.

I am just a consumer that likes to try all the bells and whistles. This really seems to be a product for a nonissue and is really not all that functional. It should have been included with the flash package. Adorama is a good 30% less than anywhere else if you are like me and just have to try it because they make it.
