Comments about Gary Fong Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible - Clear:

I bought this product mainly to take portrait pictures of pets. It does correct the eye color but it isn't as easy to collapse as the Gary Fong video shows.

I do wish the whole lightshere was cloudy instead of clear for a softer flash fill.

This is 100% better than using sppedlight alone. The light is not so direct and harsh creating hot spots on the shot. Bouncing light off the ceiling or built-in white catchlight reflector helps but not nearly as good as this product. I had absolutely no problem with the weight causing my flash to fall out of position. I have used it in both the 90 degree position like Mark Wallace demonstrated and the 45 degree position. The dome slips on the 42AM flash pretty easy but the 58 is a bit wider. It goes on with a little more effort but no big deal. I just work one side of the time. I can't get the light sphere to collapse with the dome on but I don think it was intended to. I did try bubble wrap like one photographer mentioned and to my surprise worked very well but after buying a 2000 camera, 1600 lens the idea of using bubble wrap to soften the light was not priceless. The appearance of professionalism is sometimes with an extra 60 bucks. However, he/she does get the Alton Brown award for photography. I do have to adjust the exposure compensation a 1/2 to 1 stop plus if my distance is grater than 10 feet from subject. I can recommend this product without hesitation or reservation.

Comments about Gary Fong Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible - Clear:

I use the Gary Fong collapsible for portraits at the moment.... It's a bit heavy though, and makes my flash fall 90 degree position sometimes. My camera is so big to begin with, I'm finding it passing the tipping point of bulk when I put it on. Also, it's a bit tough to get on the flash, and pops off sometimes. Overall though, I'm glad I bought it, and would recommend it to others. It creates wonderful, soft lighting, and bounces great!

Since it is universally made for most flashes I find it harder to put on my Canon 580EX. Hopefully it would stretch a bit after some use. I think it is expensive.

I love the way it surrounds subjects in light. However it is difficult to attach to my SB800 even after a live demonstration by Gary Fong himself.

Comments about Gary Fong Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible - Clear:

Pros: It definitely diffuses light well--used it for the first time and was happy with the results--both for crowd photos and close portraits--really diffused the light beautifully BUT the flash was still very bright in people's faces and I found I was mostly shooting flash toward the ceiling to avoid this. Other Cons: It's big and bulky, expensive, hard to attach to my Nikon SB-600, seemed very tight once on but still fell off twice when I flipped the direction of the flash, doesn't collapse partway--only fully up or fully down, takes up a lot of room in my camera bag, makes the flash seem huge and a bit unruly, hard to remove from the flash. :) A dog thought it was a toy and almost bit it while I held my camera at waist height!

Comments about Gary Fong Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible - Clear:

Was waiting for the collapible unit to buy the lightshere. The results are great...nice soft even light. The unit is made of a gel like plastic. It is certainly more portable than the original lightsphere, but still not small by any means. The biggest issue I had with it is that it was extremely difficult to mount onto my Canon 580EX II speedlite. Took me over 5 minutes to get it on properly and I truly was afraid I might break the tilting/rotating mechanism on the flash in the process. Once on, and "popped" up I had difficulty getting the dome to fit on because the material is flexible and the shape of your flash can alter it from a true circle. Once truly on, it is sturdy, though. I have trimmed the gel-like grips in an attempt to make it easier to get the unit on my flash...but it is still difficult, and certainly not fast. Quite frankly, it's easier to strap some bubble wrap on top of your flash...You get the same results and it is more portable and cheaper at that! Don't waste your money on this item!

Comments about Gary Fong Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible - Clear:

I've owned quite a few Gary Fongs. I was attracted to this new one since it advertises that it can fit most flashes and easily collapsible for storage. I find it actually very hard to attach it to my nikon SB900. It takes considerable force to do so! Which is a real pain when you are shooting weddings, when you want to put it on for some shots quickly. Though, once attached, it is quite sturdy. The thing doesn't collapse as easily as it is shown in the gary fong video. Definitely takes longer since you have to fiddle with it and takes two hands. The quality of light coming out is similar to previous versions, producing a diffused light. Overall, much better than the Gary's Whaletail, but still hard to attach to flash. Size wize, it really doesn't save that much more space than the order soft plastic version.
