Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

I bought this product some months ago. I use it on my Nikon D90 with SB-600. It works wonders for what I use it for. I use it for macro work normally. It couples wonderfully with the Sigma 105mm F/2.8 macro lens and the above camera combination. The diffused light is pretty good, the hot spot is a tad prominent sometimes, though. It is also a tad cumbersome to put on and take off with the supplied velcro strips, but nothing major. All in all, I really like this product.

By rjBRIGHTVerified Purchaser from Jacksonville, FL on 7/8/2009

Too Diffused
Best Uses:
General Use, Indoors

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

Works well, but not recommended in dark area if you want to light the background behind the subject. It does reduce light output so you will need to make adjustments to maintain proper exposure on your subject.

Not bad at all.
By IraVerified Purchaser from Long Island, NY on 6/24/2009

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

Didn't have high expectations. Was surprised, though, at how easy it was to put on and take off. Also very portable. It does soften shadows. I always have loved the impact of a softbox in my portraits (inside and out). You can be creative by putting this on a secondary remote light source (in my case a SB600) and get some interesting results.

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

Completely eliminates red-eye, even in dogs & cats! Super whenever you don't have the right ceiling for bounce, although sometimes I use it anyway. Have had mine for 6+ years and just bought a second unit for fill-in. I don't understand the complaints of fragility. Attaches quite well, folds flat, cleans with soap & water. Just an excellent tool. As specified, costs a stop and a bit.

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

The LumiQuest ProMax works great.

The shape allows for the flash to be used in illumination for Auto Focus. It provides a really soft look without killing the flashes ability to penetrate deep enough to use a long lens. A good balance. Useful off camera for Macro use as well.
This also folds nicely to fit into my backpack to roughly a 5" x 7" size.

I would recommend to others.

Good portable option
By JamieVerified Purchaser from Bartow, FL on 2/23/2009

Durable, Good diffusion
Best Uses:
Indoors, Low Light, Portaiture

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

I use this less than I do an Omnibounce. This takes a little more room and stable environment (occasionally slips off the flash unit, even with velcro) but does a great job at diffusing light.

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

I bought two Softboxes, and used them on my hotshoe flash units for a family portrait: flashes set on light stands. I also used one unit to soften fill light when using one flash on camera: while photographing people casually. Since I'm using non-digital flash units with a DSLR, I have to adjust power output of the flashes manually. I also need to use the built-in diffuser on the flash unit to further diffuse the output for closeups of people, since without the diffuser, results tend to be too hot. Overall, results were good, and I did not have to buy and carry bulky umbrellas to get the shots. Hot output (on iTTL or Auto) may not be problem if you are using a digital flash with your DSLR.

Ok, but i can make it for cheaper
By Photoxris from Lancaster, PA on 11/26/2008
Pros:
Lightweight
Cons:
Weak Casing
Best Uses:
General Use, Portraits
Describe Yourself:
Professional
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

It's a great idea, but it doesn't really soften the flash as much as it should. Also, it's not very durable. After a few openings and closings it started to tear at the corners and i ended up with a big tear through the diffuser. it takes a lot of light away for as much as it diffuses. I think it should have a 2nd baffle too.

It's a great idea, but you could make a much better one yourself if you're crafty and for 1/4 the price.

Great Little Softbox
By Mark1Verified Purchaser from Redlands, CA on 5/12/2008
Pros:
Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Easy To Clean
Best Uses:
General Use
Describe Yourself:
Semi-Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

The only thing most photographers don’t like about this is it has Velcro sticky tabs to stick on your flash. I used a stretchy peace of Velcro that fits my flash and the softbox sticks to that. It is great for using the flash (softbox) in portraits not giving harsh light.

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

This product is a must have for wedding and social events. The f-stop reduction totally helps in gettin that balanced exposure. "No hot spots". You can still get away with using the bouce flash method. I adhered some velcro on my flash to receive the soft box. It folds neatly into a 5x7 shape and fits easly in camera bag pouch, you know that one that is under the top side of the bag that typically has no use but to place some papers in it. I've used it in many wedding, personal portraits and it works great. Unfortunately somone borrowed it and lost it. But I'm ordering a replacement.

Good product to prevent harsh shadows
By BobVerified Purchaser from Idaho on 1/21/2008
Pros:
Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight
Cons:
Not a Custom Fit, Requires Velcro to Secure
Best Uses:
General Use, Portraits
Describe Yourself:
Semi-Professional
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

Good for reducing the "harsh" look of a bare flash but a bit unwieldy in that it requires a bit of customization for your particular flash - not custom designed or fitted for a particular model.

Quirks

Best Uses:
Fill Flash
Pros:
Softens Light
Cons:
Poor Interface

Comments about LumiQuest LumiQuest ProMax SoftBox:

I haven't used other diffusers so I don't know how it stacks up really. Id does the job and softens light when there is nothing to bounce off of. One caveat is that it atatches with velcro and takes some time to setup. This prevents you from switching from it to bounce flass quickly. I juse it mostly when I have the flash off the hot shoe. I'm still looking for a better options, but I'm in no rush so that should tell you my general level of satisfaction. Don't know whether I would recommend it or not until I have tried some other options.
