Comments about Metz Metz 48 AF-1 Shoe Mount Flash for for Sony Alpha Digital DSLR Cameras, Guide Number 158':

I got the Metz 58 for my Fujifilm S5 and at first I had all kinds of problems with it. Dark interior shots- where the flash would fire but the images were very dark; failing to fire when the shutter was released; firing without shutter release- this happened while changing modes on the flash, and so on. After a few hours of this bad behavior I was convinced the unit was running on MS Windows and I was about to return the flash to Adorama, then I remembered that this flash can be updated via a USB port, like a DSLR. It was running 3.0 according to the power up display on the flash unit and Metz web site showed the latest firmware for a Nikon version was 4.0, so I updated the flash and it seems to be running fine. That was 24 hours ago, I have yet to run extensive tests on it, but so far the results are promising, no hick ups or other undocumented feature to report. Otherwise it is back to Adorama for an exchange or to Metz for repair.
