I use this flash for weddings, I have had it for a while and am very hard on flashes. We shoot about 3000 shots a weekend. I have had the bulb replaced and various items fixed in their service department with great reults. Customer Service from Bogan is not great, but the repairs were fine. Works great for bounce flash in receptions. Much brighter than the Canon and I think my cameras meter better throught this flash. I use a 5d Mark II and 50d.

I haven't used an external flash in years and I am very impressed on how they have improved. Still learning all the features but very pleased.

At the moment I would not recommend this flash to anyone. A month ago I bought two of them and already they are both dead. One flash lasted 1.5 weddings before the bulb blew up and the second one lasted 3 weddings before the bulb blew up. After the first one I thought it was just a fluke but now I think there is a major malfunction going on with the Canon dedicated metz flashes. This is completely unacceptable for a flash that comes with this price tag.

Used for party, event photography. Much better than the Sigma flash we purchased when we first got this digital SLR; exposure is much more uniform. Auto-exposure does get fooled by white objects at the bottom of the field close to the camera. Instructions somewhat cryptic, but this is not designed for the beginner.

Bought this flash over the 580 because for one it has auto mode which is the old style thyrister type(no ttl). The flash does the work not the camera. I used a master with my 430ex and it works perfect. I used it in a 2 light portait shot with the 430 lighting the background behind subect and the 58 head on. Very nice results. EV setable through camera, in manual and auto can set iso on flash. Not much bigger than the 430 which is nice. Would absolutely recommend, no regrets here.

Comments about Metz Metz 58 AF-1C Digial Shoe Mount Flash for Canon Digital SLR's, with e-TTL 2, Wireless function & USB Upgradable, Guide Number 190, ISO 100 ft.:

Some complain about menu system - it is not that complex to use. Excellent camera integration means a lot of functions can be set through the camera, with no need to touch the flash unit itself.

Card bounce or bounce with second flash head enabled gives fantastic exposures of faces with natural looking results. Those who complain that the second head is weak, are not using it as intended.

Does tend to struggle with lighting up a dark hall, but this is where the old Canon wireless link flashes come in, both 550EX and 580 EX being excellent radio slaves.

Already updated the firmware to match Canon ETTLII(v2) and it is my main flash. It is also lighter and smaller than 580EX & EXII. Radio link compatibility excellent.

Used it with my Canon EOS 400D. Perfect natural lighting produced either with diffuser or flip card. Fast recycling time. Consistent light output on same exposure and same angle shots. Replaced my 430EX with this flash unit. No regrets.
