The servicing dealer in South Africa (Photo Agencies) Johannesburg honoured the international warranty and I now withdraw my previous negative review. Fault repaired FOC and flash working perfectly.

Used for weddings, portraits, fill-in and night photography. Having used Metz flashes for many years without any problems, and having done thorough comparisons with SB800 and 900's, I am reluctant to recommend the 58AF-1N shoe mount (used on a Nikon D3)as my 8 week old and lightly used 58AF-1N's flash ready light no longer comes on and no "ready" info is displayed in the camera display. The capacitor is obviuosly not charged as the flash cannot be fired.(all other info. comes up on flash LCD display)[...]

I've only had limited time with the Metz, but the main reason that I bought it and hope to have it replace my Nikon SB 800 flash is the secondary or wink light. I like that the power to the wink light is adjustable. The unit is light and compact for this type of flash and balances nicely on my D200.

It come with a case and stand which doesn't fit in the case. The SB 800 comes with a stand, several filters and the extra battery holder for increased speed in between flashes, all of which fit into the case - very nice. Still, the Metz recycles quickly with fresh batteries and it has that wink light.
