Been around photography over 2 decades weaned on Nikon's in the U.S. Air Force as a AF PJ, still using my workhorse Vivitar 285 & Quantum battery pack, decided to upgrade to see what the Speedlight could do, did recycle quick, did most of what I asked it to do. Did not like the swivel head lock, stiff and got in the way of the diffuser every time I wanted to move it. Put it on a flash bracket & lack of PC jack meant I had to purchase a $50 TTL cord to mount on the bracket, cord had a hot shoe mount but no lock, so I had to tape it down to keep my [$] flash from hitting the floor every time I moved. Unless you plan on buying several of these Speedlights to work in tandem save your money.

I have used this flash quite a bit over the last couple of weeks along with my d80 and have enjoyed the results.

Even when I gave it to my friends (who rarely take pictures) the whole Nikon flash system just works! With the SB 700 I find it particularly useful that it has the in build diffuser/flash card which is extremely useful at places like music festivals where you want a portable and easy to use flash bounce/diffuser system.

I was amazed at the features in this compact, fairly inexpensive Speedlight! The new ratio shooting option is very helpful for balancing main/key/hair lights. It's recycle time is blazing fast. I can shoot at full power and it will recycle in about 1.5 seconds with Eneloops in it. Scrolling through the menus is made very easy and fast with the new command dial. Exposure compensation can be changed by simply spinning the dial rather than jack-hammering on the +/- buttons like on the SB-600. :)

The new dedicated buttons are a great improvement over the SB-600. Rather than mushing two buttons down at once for over two seconds to get to the menu, you simply press "menu" and you're there.

The new snap-on gel filters are very nice and quick to use. It senses which gel is on and auto corrects the WB of the camera. The diffuser is very nice and will even out the light so much that I can use it with my 8mm lens and not have hot spots.

The flash lock is very well made. As you flip it to "lock", it is spring loaded and will snap into place if you don't lock it all the way. It feels very secure in the hot-shoe, with no shifting.

It is slightly heavier and bigger than the SB-600 but so minutely it won't be noticed unless measured side by side.

Overall this is a great upgrade to the SB-600 with many additional features and options and is a worthy addition to the CLS series.

I was using a friend's SB 600 at wedding receptions until my long awaited SB 700 came in stock! I was so happy the first time I used it! It was so fast and had so many more functions. I almost bought a used SB 800 while waiting for the 700 release, I am so glad I waited!

I have had it for a short time and it has worked fine. It is a little bit heavy, but not unacceptably so. I'm using it on my Nikon D90.

This could have been a very good product.
The lack of a PC port is a ridiculous omission.
