I bought this to replace an Oly Fl36 that was just not bright enough. The Metz works great - plenty of light and control and integrates easily on the Olympus Evolt 300. Even without the flash bracket I purchased the design and height of the Metz has all but eliminated the red eye problems I was having with the on camera flash or the FL36. Lots of power and a quick recycle time.

Received as a gift to use with my Olympus E-620 and am very impressed so far using it indoors and as an outdoor fill flash: recycles are very quick and silent, output is consistent. Built-in bounce reflector is handy; USB upgradeable firmware is reassuring. Doesn't include a stand though. Build quality seems good to me -- I haven't used the Olympus units to compare, but I don't see anything wrong with the Metz. The biggest weakness is the interface, but now that I have it figured out it hasn't been a problem in actual use.
Wireless TTL works well, however in the Olympus implementation it is triggered as an optical slave so the Metz needs to be in the line of sight of the on camera flash. Having done a little testing, it seems like hand-holding the flash out to the side but slightly forward of the camera works ok if that's what you want to do.
Overall, better performance than the Olympus FL-36R for just a little more, and still half the price of the FL-50R.

Great for my Olympus E 510. Great companion accessory for the 70 to 300mm lense. The Oly can regulate the power cut off to give good exposures. Quality feel(German engineering and manufacture)
Only con: the displays are small fonts (for my 72yr old eyes w/glasses).
