Not the most powerful bulb on the block, but when you want simplicity and portability it is easy to pack along for the ride. If I need more power and control options I bring the SB-800. The SB-400 is fine 80% of the time and there are no complex screens to scroll through.

Comments about Nikon Nikon SB-400 TTL AF Shoe Mount Speedlight, Gray Market:
I use a SB 600 as my primary flash. However this SB 400 is a great accessory to carry around without the bulk of a larger unit. 2 AA's and and fast recycling seem to work well. The tilt feature just allows the reflector portion of the flash to pivot. This is different from a traditional flash where the entire head pivots.
The SB 400 can be fitted for a dedicated Stofen difuser. Only drawback is that there is no ability to rotate the flash head on the horizontal plane which prevents use of the bounce flash when using the camera in the portrait orientation.
Price is reasonable for a Nikon accessory!!!

Great for inside work where the inbuilt flash wont hack it. Nice and compact so fits in my Cam' bag OK.Only draw back todate is I cant use it and my GPS unit at the same time( This comment is being a bit Picky). Yes I could have bought a bigger unit with more grunt but again I would have had to have bought a bigger Cam' Bag I did my research and I am happy with the purchase. JMW

Very easy to use and doesn't take much space in a camera bag. Best feature is the tilt-able head.
