Comments about Sigma Sigma EF-530 DG Super Shoe Mount Flash for Canon EOS E-TTL-II Digital SLR's, Guide Number 174 feet at 105mm Setting.:

This flash sounded like a deal, the camera does all the ETTL so why do I need it duplicated in the flash? Flash fires about 50% of the time and then 25% of the time it does fire it doesn't fire bright enough. I have tried using the manual settings low & High just to get the job done but even then it still only fires half the time. Ordered a 580EX II expected to arrive today.

Comments about Sigma Sigma EF-530 DG Super Shoe Mount Flash for Canon EOS E-TTL-II Digital SLR's, Guide Number 174 feet at 105mm Setting.:

It's a great flash...when it works. Mine recently stopped working and they wanted to charge me almost full retail to "upgrade" to a newer model because they couldn't fix mine. I am buying a canon replacement as they tend to be much more reliable. In short, these are great flashes. I used it mostly on manual with my 30D because it tended to trend a bit overexposed (not sure if it's the flash or the camera). They are great for everyday use...but...don't rely on it if your photographic life hangs in the balance.

Comments about Sigma Sigma EF-530 DG Super Shoe Mount Flash for Canon EOS E-TTL-II Digital SLR's, Guide Number 174 feet at 105mm Setting.:

This flash did not work well on my Canon EOS. The zoom button did not work. Operation was poor throughout and the product manual was poorly done.
I would not recommend this flash. I returned it to Adorama and ordered a Canon 430 EX which is a jewel.

I found that the unit required a fairly steep learning curve, but once you learned it's features, it worked quite well for almost all of my photography.

Good product but there is a learning curve. That isn't the product's fault though. Wish the instruction booklet was clearer and explained things in more detail.

Comments about Sigma Sigma EF-530 DG Super Shoe Mount Flash for Canon EOS E-TTL-II Digital SLR's, Guide Number 174 feet at 105mm Setting.:

I use this flash for general use. I wanted a powerful bounce flash which makes it great for photos. The optical slave feature will work with any camera and give you the depth of professional photos. I had the opportunity to shoot a fashion show and the recycle time caused me to miss a few shots. I could fault my self with not controling the situation and taken better photos vs just shooting a bunch hoping I got a good one.

If you are a Canon 50D user you could be very disappointed when you recieve this flash and find out that it misbehaves on your camera. To fix it means sending it to sigma for upgrade. If you contact Sigma Customer service you'll speak with Tom who is without a doubt one of the rudest customer service reps I have ever spoken too, I then spoke with Mark [...] (Sigma General Manager) who said I had one of two options: #1) buy another flash directly from them and then send the one I purchased from adorama in for a refund. #2) send mine in for repair and they'd do the upgrade adn try to send it back out as soon as possible.[...] well I am using this on a CANON 50D. See one of several links to the Sigma Press Release Date 10-29-2008 (Yes 2008) and places like Adorama are still shipping product that is outside older and not fixed.Just search for Canon 50D Sigma SUPER DG issues [@] Save yourself the headache and hassle, just buy the Canon!! P.S. - This didn't even deserve 1 star but I had to select atleast one to submit the review
