Excellent flash for medium format. Fills the whole frame. Lots of power with the battery pack. The flash shoe has no locking device, but I just put a screw at the rear to hold it in place.

Comments about Sunpak Sunpak 120J Auto Pro Flash, Guide Number 150 at Normal Position ISO 100 ft.:

It's a work horse. I have 2 that are the center of my "grip and grin", low budget weddings, and edditorial shoot gear packages. I've always been an old school style shooter so I like the fact that I don't have to pay for a lot of TTL features that are never used. The light out put from the Lumidyne style tube and reflector are great, and I've always prefered round catch lites in my subjects eyes.
The only down sides are: it's a little slow on full power recycling even with Quantum Battery1 and, the swivel head is a little fragile.

Cheers

Comments about Sunpak Sunpak 120J Auto Pro Flash, Guide Number 150 at Normal Position ISO 100 ft.:

The Sunpak 120J is the unsung hero of the strobe world. While it may not have the electronic sophistication of newer designs, it's simplicity is the key to it's success. The bare bulb and reflector render a much more smooth and natural light versus typical rectangular shoe mounted flashes. The option of removing the reflector entirely and using it bare bulb expands its uses to illuminate large interior spaces. The 120J can be outfitted with optional TTL modules for more automated on-camera use. But it's forte is as a super light weight and portable location strobe. The threaded base is quickly mounted to a standard light stand for use off camera as main or fill. Adding a simple umbrella modifier makes it ideal for portrait work.
