Comments about Sunpak Sunpak MZ-440AF Flash for Canon EOS Cameras, Guide Number 131 ISO 100 ft.:

I have always used Sunpak flashes because of their track record, ever since my first unit (Sunpak 322) But Autofoucus flash units (to me) are more of a headache. The most annoying problem is hunting. Its bad enough when a lens does it ...but a flash that wont fire because its going back and forth...come on. Any lens past 80mm gives this flash a problem. Believe it or not I had to go back and use my Sunpak 383. Its not E-TTL so what, it works on my manual cameras (Canon Ftb, F1), autofocus (EOS-3, Elan-7) and my digital 5D.

Comments about Sunpak Sunpak MZ-440AF Flash for Canon EOS Cameras, Guide Number 131 ISO 100 ft.:

Boy, maybe I am just too new at photography to be writing a negative review, but I am just flat out disappointed with this flash. I was excited to get something better that the cameras pop-up flash, but this ain't it.

It doesn't synch with the cannon rebel at all. I set the Av custom function to synch flash at 1/200sec. This works fine with the pop-up flash but the Sunpak doesn't do it. Infact, when I attach Sunpak, the camera performs as if there is no flash on it at all - the flash fires but the aperture and shutter speeds are unchanged whether the flash is attached or not.

Also, not matter what ISO and focal length I set the flash to, the output seems the same, which is actually rather weak. But when I press the test button it is obvious a very powerful unit.

Maybe I have a camera setting wrong, but thus far my experience has been all negative.

Stay away from this flash, the pop-up is better.
