Primary use is for real estate.Indoor shots of homes for sale posted on realtors web site for prospective buyers to view.Needed powerful flash for dimly lit large rooms and this Sunpak is excellent. Perfect exposures every time with TTL sync with Nikon D5000.Could not be happier with how this flash performs. And did I mention it was much less expensive than the comparable Nikon flashes!

This strobe was purchased as part of a package. The Flashpoint Quickflip bracket, off camera power cord, and strobe. The strobe will not work on the bracket because the power cord will not mount to the bracket and the strobe mounts to the cord. You need an adapter[NOT SUPPLIED]for this to work.I purchased this in November and am still waiting for the dang adapter. The strobe works fine for this review but......as a PACKAGE watch out.I do recommend the STROBE.

The only thing this flash needs to get the 5th star is a better on/off switch. It is so easy to move that I have had it turn itself on several times when it has been shifted in my camera bag.

i bought this flash over SB600 because of the price...and yeah, this flash is comparable to SB600 or SB800...the only disadvantage of this flash compare to Nikon's speedlights is that, you can't use the CLS mode of your camera (D80s, D300s...) with this flash...but all in all this flash ia great for its value! by the way im using it with my D200, and it works pretty well...together with the Sto-fen flash diffuser.

Using the College of the Siskiyous, Nikon SB600, SB800 Flashes and my Sunpak PZ42X to test it out. I went out and I shot a good number of similar pictures with each flash unit. Going through them in Lightroom 2, I felt that I got better shots with the Sunpak Flash. AT night in a club the Sunpak PZ42X was able to reach out farther into the group then with the SB600 and just about the same with the SB800. Though the SB800 and the new SB900 have some nice features $ for $ my bet is on the Sunpak I can buy 3 - PZ42x for the price of 1 SB-800/900.
Now for some Info on me, I am 55 now and have been taking Photos since I was 12-13. My Dad was a photographer use kids were his models. I have been disabled since 1995 and needed a new hobby. I have not been taking Photos for 15 year except for the family and I used one of the automatic 35 mm cameras. In 1999 when I got some money in Back pay I got my first Digital camera it was a Minolta, it was a 2 MP camera shot only Jpgs, and cost me $400. I have almost 15,000 Jpgs and close to 10,000 Raw Photos saved on HD, CD's and DVD's. I went back to college and finishing my AA in Fine Arts. With student loans I been able to get new Computers (iMac & Mackbook Pro), Cameras (Nikon D90 and D300), and a lot of Software Adobe CS4 and Lightroom 2. I have just started a Photography and Photo Restoration Business out of my home. and the Sunpak Flash is just one of the many important pieces of equipment that I need to get the things done. things

I do mostly wedding photography using Nikon cameras and Sunpak flashes. I have been a fan of Sunpak for many years and the PZ52XN works perfectly with my Nikon digital camera. I have tried another brand but it did not work with Nikon's i-TTL. The PZ42XN also works fine with my older Nikon film cameras.
It is a bright flash with a guide number around 138 at ISO 100. Since most of my flash photography is done at ISO's from 200 to 1600 this flash can be used from the balcony in most dark churches that allow flash. 60-70 feet away is no problem. This powerful flash is a blessing when using it outdoors as fill flash. In the shade, it can brighten your subject to preserve color in background lakes and sky.
Exposures have been remarkedly consistent and the flash has been extremely dependable. Battery life is acceptable and the AA batteries are available almost everywhere. I use alkalines and change batteries between the church/ceremony and the reception.
I could not expect any more out of a flash unit. It does not get any better than this.

Nice flash, a bargain when compared to the Nikon but not as many interactions with the camera either. No prob if you don't need them.
It would be a perfect flash if it had a connector to provide external power from a battery pack.
