Comments about Phoenix Phoenix RL-59C Automatic TTL Ringlight Flash for Canon EOS, with 49mm, 52mm & 58mm Adapter Rings, Guide Number of 59 at ISO 100 feet:

The RL-59C came from [...] as a package with the Canon Digtl RBL XTI Dental Camera outfit. I thought the ring light was broken. I called Phoenix prior to return for repair and they told me this ring light only works on film cameras. [...] told me "tough luck" without the original box for return. I think that is poor business. I am trying to get a new box sent to me from Phoenix, and this is difficult.

OK, the price is a lot less then the Canon so in all fairness what was I expecting? But, it is total junk. Somewhere I read it should work with a Rebel XT which means it would work with a XTi, 30D, etc. Not the case because the shoe mount pins do not line up properly. Save your money and buy the real deal. Canon MR-14EX. Much better!!!!

I have used this item for closeup shots of items to be listed on Ebay, and the like. I deem it to be specialized, and not for general photographic use.

This needs to be re-engineered to work with the cameras that are available. I tried it on an XTi and a 20D. No flash.

Comments about Phoenix Phoenix RL-59C Automatic TTL Ringlight Flash for Canon EOS, with 49mm, 52mm & 58mm Adapter Rings, Guide Number of 59 at ISO 100 feet:

It was mentioned that "nowhere does it say it won't work with the XTi" but doesn't the fact that this is a TTL and the XTi (and other dSLR cams) need a E-TTL mean it won't work with the XTi.

It is what it is - a cheap TTL ring flash. Good for the film TTL compat bodies - not for the dSLRs so much.

Poor quality
By Juan F from Round Rock, TX on 8/2/2006
Cons:
Battery hungry, Not Durable, Slow Recycling, Weak Construction

Comments about Phoenix Phoenix RL-59C Automatic TTL Ringlight Flash for Canon EOS, with 49mm, 52mm & 58mm Adapter Rings, Guide Number of 59 at ISO 100 feet:

Poor in all aspects. Needs brand new batteries all the time or it will not charge. Only used it three times in two years and now it is dead.
