Comments about Phoenix Phoenix RL-59N Automatic TTL Ringlight Flash for Nikon AF, with 49mm, 52mm & 58mm Adapter Rings, Guide Number of 59 at ISO 100 feet:
This unit worked for 5 shots then quit in that it would not permit the camera to trigger. It only fired a full flash, did not operate in the TTL mode. The manufacturer says it is not intended for digital cameras, something not made clear in the description of this product. Other reviewers had similar experience with the lack of quality of items by this manufacturer. No instructions or brochure of any kind came with the unit.

Comments about Phoenix Phoenix RL-59N Automatic TTL Ringlight Flash for Nikon AF, with 49mm, 52mm & 58mm Adapter Rings, Guide Number of 59 at ISO 100 feet:
I purchased this unit upon the recommendation of a photography workshop for macro photography. When I mounted the unit on my Nikon D90 it worked for about 5 shots, then it quit in the sense that it prevents the camera from working. The time/f-stop information disappeared, the camera cannot be triggered. What makes it really frustrating is that nowhere on the box nor inside are there any instructions nor any hint of who the manufacturer is and, of course, no information how to contact same.

I use this product for an occasional product photograph. It is not as versatile as I had hoped and will only work in Manual through an adapter with my digital camera. I would not use this outdoors or carry it in my camera bag, just not rugged enough. The price is right for what I use it for.

I just received this as a Christmas gift, and was excited to give it a go. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that it does not work with my Nikon D80.
Failing to get it working drove me here looking for guidance. That's when I noticed the other reviewer's similar experience.
It looks like I'll be returning/exchanging this one, as it is of no use if it is unable to "play well" with the D80.
...bummer!

Seems to work just fine with my old F50 but I just can't get it to fire at all with my new D80 - not even with every setting I can find on the camera set to manual. Ho hum - the joys of technology generation cross-over.
Still, for an older TTL generation camera this is very good value - pity there isn't (currently) an iTTL version.
