I really like how easy it is to use and how unobtrusive it is in my bag on the camera. Some people say it doesn't trigger in bright sun but I haven't had that problem at all and used it quite a few times in blazing sun without ever missing a flash. The only trouble I have had is it needs a direct line of signal and at weddings people will get in the way and I might miss that shot. Other than that small issue I love this thing and will do me well until I upgrade to pocket wizards eventually.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 - With USA Warranty:
I purchased this product specifically for baby and portrait photography, but will also use it for family photographs as well as photos for volunteer organizations. I needed reliable off camera flash without spending a ton of money. This works very well with my Canon system and is easy to pack and store.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 - With USA Warranty:
This is a useful piece of hardware. The interface is very clear and easy to use, and anyone who has spent time fumbling around "pressing and holding" various buttons and combinations of buttons on the backs of flashes will appreciate the straight forward layout on this. I bought this to replace a 580 EX II I've been using as a commander, with the thought to get the 580 EX II into the scene. I have four speedlites. The awkward thing now is that since the commander can only control two groups compared to the 580's ability to control three, I have to manually adjust some of the flashes in the scene. That defeats the purpose of having this as a master, I would be better off spending $20.00 on [...] and getting a chinese radio unit with greater range. So it is less expensive and less able to control compared to using a 580. It is more expensive with equal (manual) control than a chinese unit if you have more than two flash groupings. I see that as a double failure. The thing that irked me the most was also missing the small print on "battery not included" and finding out that the unit does not use standard batteries. At my local store a replacement battery costs $20, which is 10% of the cost of the unit. I do about 500 flashes in a shoot. So this battery is good for three shoots. After 30 shoots I will go through enough batteries to double the cost of the unit. At double the cost of the unit, you can buy a 580 EX II and use rechargeable batteries with no replacement cost. That is of course unless you want to stock up on batteries from Adorama which sells this battery for a lot cheaper. Overall though, this is an annoyance. If this unit was powered by two AA rechargeable batteries I would give it a thumbs up, but a 1500 cycle throw away battery is a real shame. Even if you're buying cheaper batteries, if you shoot a lot this unit will eventually cost you more in the pocket than the flagship flash *which* as mentioned before has a lot more utility. This unit will remain lighter, but again, if light is what you need, a chinese radio unit is even smaller and lighter than this. And uses rechargeable batteries.Canon really does need to get off their butts and give us a replacement to the ST-E2 that uses standard AA batteries and can handle the 3rd flash group that the EX 580 does. I would not be surprised if they don't, the more people that are limited by the shortcomings of this commander that are pushed into buying a 580, the better for their bottom line.

I use this with a 580 exii flash. Works very well for focusing in low light. Good to get the flash off the top of the camera.(Much smaller & lighther than flash.)ETTL and high speed sync works very well.

Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 - With USA Warranty:
The unit is very light weight and as a result feels a little fragile. The red covers on the front have been reported to come/break off. I can see where this may happen if you snag it just right on something. The unit is easy to use and I have no trouble getting it to fire all the flashes in my application. It's no radio so no big range out doors, but works fine indoors so far. I like the idea that I can get the flash off the camera without a chord. Gives me a little more versatility with flash placement.
Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 - With USA Warranty:
The ST-E2 works great for controlling flashes. It's easy to use and set up for firing the 3 580EX's I have. It says the workable angle is 90 degrees, but I've exceeded that numerous times without problems. Two cautions--this unit requires a 2CR5 6v Lithium Battery, which is not included in the package. This was listed in the fine print on Adorama, but I missed it -- so a last minute run to [@]that I could have avoided. While the ratio control is great and easy to use, it only controls two groups (A & B). If you are using the 580EX as the master, you can control three groups of flash (for three different light levels).

Great stuff to take around with mi 580 EXII external flash, gives me the possibility to light my fotos from different angles without the anoying cables, the only con is that it does not come with a lithium rechargeable battery

Easy to set up and use. Hard to find a battery for.
Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 - With USA Warranty:
Too bad Canon uses infared only to transmit ETTL information. Radio like the pocket Wizards as an option would have given greater flexability to these units. Working with companies like Pocket Wizard to intergrate compatibility would also make Canon a more desireable product.

Great little unit.
Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 - With USA Warranty:
Only drawback I can see with this is that it doesn't work at great distances. I have not checked out to see how far it will work but if it was used for nature shots you would miss out on a lot of them. 33 feet is not to great a distance.
I used this ST-E2 for about a month now and I am very pleased with the performance of it. Even when I had the eye of the flash pointed the other way it still triggered my flash. I was close to it anyway at that time but it works as well as you would expect a Canon product to work. I have triggered one flash with it and going to start triggering two flashes with it. The combinations are almost endless.

Just bought this. Used it once with mixed results. Shots indoors firing my 580 EX off camera came out very nice. Shots outdoors in bright sunlight were overexposed a stop or two. I am attending Canon training this Friday to better understand how to use this.
Comments about Canon Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 - With USA Warranty:
Worked flawlessly on a recent industrial shoot with a single Speedlite 580 and umbrella. Once you set your Speedlite correctly, you're pretty much ready to go! You have to make sure the Speedlite's sensor is turned toward the transmitter--kind of a drag to have to flip around the flash when you change the lighting angle. Having focus assist makes up for that.
Still, I'd love to see some improvements like battery life indicator. Hopefully the price will be worth it, because for that much I expect it to work for a while.

I bought this with 2 speedlites ( 580s) and saved some money on a special. I'm impressed with the range and ease of use once it's set up.

Works perfectly, very useful.
Cons: No way to know how full is the battery, so you don't know in advance when it will die. Not happy that Canon didn't care about our rechargeable battery needs for one of their product.

Works flawlessly with my 580EX II and 430EX.
The interface is very intuitive albeit a tad of archaic. I figured it out without referring to the manual.
