The main problem that most people who purchase this item will experience is that it comes with zero instructions and assembly is definitely not intuitive (please adorama -- just put a photocopied sheet in the box with parts list and simple instructions). Fortunately, one of the customers above kindly outlined how it is put together. I also found instructions for a similar photoflex set here. If you follow these, you will be all set: [@] [...] it looks like I will have to buy a new one. Make sure your unit has all the pieces: 1) attachment ring; 2) softbox body; 3) four support poles; 4) inner diffuser baffle; 5) front diffusion panel

I use the device frequently for portraits of people and objects with great success. The only negative feature of this product is the degree of difficulty in assembly. It should be redesigned for better assembly.

This thing is a little of a nightmare to put together. It took me a good 15 to 20 minutes just to figure out how to put it together, and at least another 30 minutes to assemble it. I almost called to see what parts were missing. It wasn't until after I figured out how I 'thought' it should be assembled, that I was popped a good one in the mouth trying to gently get everything into place, and got angry enough to pre-bend the rods into an arc to assemble it.
Stick three of the rods into holes in the outer ring so that they are in a symmetrical pattern with the fourth that faces forward on the inside face of the box. Then bend all four rods into a gentle arc, so that it looks sort of like a deep umbrella. With the only front mounting rod facing forward and not locked, place all four rods into the hidden pockets in the outer rim of each velcro sewn corner of the softbox fabric and then put all three rods in 3 of the 4 symmetrical holes in the speed ring so that the rods are bent facing forward. Then firmly push, and lock in the last rod(the one with that dial looking lock mechanism. I thought 4 holes at a 45, 55 or 65 degree angle in the front plate would have been a better idea than having people dangerously bend those spring steel rods at a 75 to 80 degree angle. I hope this helps a little. If I felt like taking this contraption back apart, I might do a picture instruction sheet making it more clear, but once was enough!
An instruction sheet would be an immense help!
Once you get it together it is a fine piece of inexpensive equipment.

Love this thing - after I figured out (with no instruction sheet) exactly how to put it together. It is not difficult, but try to do it first in the studio. My mistake was assemling it for the first time on location. Fortunately the client was too busy to stand around and watch me struggle with first-time assembly. Once assembled, you can leave it all together and ready to mount in the bracket. The missing instruction sheet would have made it easier to figure out what to do with the little white square with clips on the corners (it is the mid-point diffuser that eliminates a hot spot). Really obvious once you get it together but I am an old guy who only knows umbrellas. While you are at it , get a boom arm and bracket if you want flexibility in positioning. I had to go back.

Softbox was very difficult to assemble. No instructions were included. Should have known that after looking it up on the net that it was/should be easy. But it takes two people.

Pros: The soft box is sturdy and comes with a rotating speed ring. Has a removable internal baffle.
The quality of light with the baffle is good and is just what I had hoped for. I would buy another.
Cons: The metal speed ring is bulky and a little heavy. The rods are metal and from experience they will eventually lose their spring. Nylon or composite is more desirable.
