Comments about California Sunbounce California Sunbounce 71" x 96.5" Pro Wind-Killer Static Kit:
Now I know why it was so hard to get much information about the wind-killer online. Every one must be just hoping that this piece of garbage will just disappear one day.
Me, I was suckered in by the relative quality of my Sun-Swatter Big. Since there is so much wind on the beaches down here, it was a no-brainer that I would want to diffuse the breeze, too. So took a leap of faith and ordered up. Imagine my shock to unpack the box and learn that the "fabric" is nothing more than a thin sheet of PLASTIC with strategic slits to allow some wind to pass. And I mean THIN. I doubt it will hold up to even a month of shoots. Also...every where you look, all the product shots are tiny. To me, 4 POLES meant a pole for every side, i.e. RIGIDITY. Noooooo, they give you four HALF poles (I understood that four-foot lengths would be required for shipping reasons, but presumed that assembled I would end up with four FULL-LENGTH poles). So. You get 8-feet on either side...BUT....the poles don't have a matching hole so you can use the snap pin. The bottom pole will keep falling out as try to set up the wind-killer. Fortunately, I also have a sunbounce butterfly so was able to frankenstein poles together.
Does the wind-killer cut the wind? Yes.
But could you accomplish the same thing yourself using the poles you already have, buying a plastic tarp from the dollar store and slitting it up? Yes.
I know I will be purchasing a 20x20 tarp and doing exactly that. With the extension pieces from my butterfly, my poles are now 12 foot high.
(Use the sunbounce clips to attach the tarp to your poles, by the way.)
