Comments about Westcott Westcott 43" Optical White Satin Collapsible Umbrella:
The umbrella arrived and never worked--it would not stay expanded. I returned and replaced it. The replacement has been used twice and is broken. The shaft is thin and has already bent and cracked open. Threads holding the fabric to the struts are breaking. It is an inexpensive umbrella, the fabric diffuses light well, and the concept is great, but it is now unusable.

Comments about Westcott Westcott 43" Optical White Satin Collapsible Umbrella:
This is a very affordable umbrella. I bought two of these along with my Bogen lightstand. I accidentally knocked down one of the umbrellas and the light weight cheaply made aluminum rib broke, just like that. This is perfectly fine for indoors and light usable, but I would not recommend it for anything else. This is a very cheaply made umbrella using cheap materials with the word Adorama printed on it. Would not recommend it.

Comments about Westcott Westcott 43" Optical White Satin Collapsible Umbrella:
So Adorama has had made their version of this umbrella with a big ugly logo on it. It's not cheaper than the original, but the points are sharper and I wouldn't use it aroung children.
Anyhow to soften light a shoot through umbrelle is the best option. It gives you the least loss of light and that's important for anyone using small strobes (strobist style)
You better get the The Westcott convertible double-fold umbrella
