Lens is far better than I expected thanks in part to a few negative reviews I read. Sigma may not have the QC of some companies so if it doesn't take sharp photos then maybe you should exchange for another. My copy is very sharp through 300, losing a little at 400 but still very good. The OS is fabulous. True focus can be a bit slow, HSM would be a welcomed addition but without, still a great buy. I am very impressed. As far as weight, I would rather it feel like this than cheap and flimsy. EX finish is pro grade. Recommended.

Very slow focus. Hunts in low light probably due to it's small max aperture. Mediocre to poor "sharpness". OS eats batteries like crazy. They should at least have put HSM on this lens. This is a mediocre-at-best, slow, heavy lens. A definite underperformer in my opinion.

This lens is a great lens for nature or sports. It's optics are supurb and on Par with the canon 100-400. The only way I found myself useing this lens was when it was mounted on a monopod, such as at a sporting event. This lens is just way too heavy to travel with or to take it on a causual photo outing. The construction is excellent although not quite as durable as the L series because the outers shell can scratch quite easily. I would strongly recommend this lens for somebody who is looking for an alternative to the canon 100-400, who wants excellent sharpness, and who is going to be useing a tripod or monopod.

Sharpness on par with my Canon 100-300 f3.5-5.6 which was a lot less money and a much lighter weight. Not even close to Canon 100-400 L lens.
