Comments about Manfrotto by Bogen Imaging Bogen - Manfrotto Car Window Pod (#3292):
I first starting using Manfrotto tripods and accessories 30 years ago and they continue to be my go-to source for camera mounting both professionally and for my personal photos. Parts continue to be well designed, well made, good looking, good feeling, and reasonably priced.
I went looking for a window clamp (actually a half dozen window clamps for a really complex setup but that is another story). In short this Manfrotto part popped up, sturdy and reasonalby priced and I ordered 6. They have worked really well and I will make only two small negative observations here:
-the 3/8" retaining screw is a brass slotted screw and cannot be removed - the clamp mechanism is in the way. This prevented be from replacing the brass slotted screw with a hex-socket screw. The brass screw works fine but it is difficult to poke a big screwdriver in there to really sock it down.
-the rubber pad peels away at the end of the clamp. It sticks inside the clamp and so does not get lost but it looks a little odd with the rubber bit flapping like that. I think some contact cement will fix it, but still.... happened to all 6 of my window clamps.
These two nits kept it to 4 stars and not the usual 5 stars that Manfrotto stuff usually elicits from me.

paired this up with the Manfrotto ball head for wildlife shots in Africa. Tested at home and seems very stable. Could only give a 4 for now because it needs to be tested thoroughly in the field. Leaving day after tomorrow.

I use this to hold my E-520 & 50-500 lens while taking wildlife shots from my pickup on country roads. It clamps on to enough of the glass so it holds securily even with the long lenses.

We recently returned from a trip to Kruger National Park in Africa. We had one window mount that worked great, but realized we needed one for each side of the vehicle. We got the Manfrotto because it is compact and works well with our gear. These are a must have for shots from your vehicle!

It took a bit of getting used to, but once I had a comfortable position it worked quite well. I use it with an Induro quick release medium ball head. I leave it slightly loose for target acquisition, then either steady it by hand or lock down, depending on the light and the target. I would advise anyone using this to turn the engine off before shooting, as the engine vibration will certainly travel to the clamp through the car window.

Used with a Bogen head, this can do a good job when doing wildlife photography from the car. Offers stability for slower shutter speeds/ lower ISO

Honestly, I have not used it yet. I bought for use down the road. But I can tell you that the quality is top notch. From all appearances and handling, it will work just fine for me.

Combine this clamp with a 484 Mini ballhead and you have a great car "tripod" for wildlife from a vehicle.
