This macro focusing rail set is well built, sturdy and performs very reliably in the studio when shooting at a 1:1 magnification ratio. The rails allow me to make fine adjustments without any vibration or camera shake and the operation is quite smooth. The locking mechanisms on both rails prevent any unwanted movement after my desired position is set. This rail set does not perform like an entry-level "budget" item at all, making it a great buy for the price.

This is a great tool when shooting small products in the studio and is an absolute must have for focus stacking.

Adorama also delivered this item very quickly, which was a definite bonus. Great buy!

This does not function like a "BUDGET" item, it is a bit heavy, but smooth and wonderful control. This is an exceptional product and a great price.

When I saw the price and the word "budget" in the title, my natural reaction was to expect a cheap plastic rail that would work well enough until I could afford an RRS or a Novoflex rail. Having it in hand and using it, I am no longer so certain- the rail is made solidly out of metal and hard rubber, and the movements are accurate and smooth with no play at all. I haven't tested the weight capacity, but it seems good for the 5 lb load I used and could definitely handle a lot more. I recommend using a strong ball head to mount this on, and getting a mounting plate adapter instead of directly screwing this into your camera.

I echo other reviewer's comments about good build quality and smooth operation. It's so smooth I can adjust the focus while recording a video without any wobbles or sudden movements. Also, the lateral movement makes it that much easier to frame the subject versus having to move the tripod. Again, the lateral rail is just as smooth as the focusing rail.

The only hit I can give it for videography use is you may need to use an external mic if you need to focus while recording. There is a little bit of play between the knob/shaft and the gear teeth on the rail. So you can hear a very slight clicking noise if the camera's mic is too close to the knob. You can judge for yourself by watching the attached video at 1:17 - 1:20, 1:46, 1:51, and 2:02 for some samples.

This focusing rail is a great value for the price. It provides everything that I need for macro work. The only thing that I wish it has is an Arca Swiss quick release clamp.

This focusing rail works very good, especially for the cost if using up to a magnification ratio of 1:1. I really liked the 4 way control. If doing macro-photography of higher magnification (like using Canon MP-65) then the controls will not be fine enough. You may need the better Adorama 4-way focusing rail.

I have a nice bellows unit with lens but I think this unit with a good macro lens will be faster and easier to set up even though it will not give me the range of enlargement or size that the bellows unit will allow.

I expected a flimsy piece of equipment, but should have known better as all of the Adorama equipment I have purchased have been above par. This is a fine example of a macro focusing rail and does the job perfectly. I don't have a light camera and don't use the plastic lenses so it isn't just for light gear.

I use this product for macro photography for wildflowers, cactus etc. and insects bees etc. that can be pollenizing plants. Friend bought a far more expensive product and was surprised with the quality of this one. He thought I had paid three times what I bought it for.

Moves smoothly on each axis and is quite sturdy. It's a pain to pack and carry around, but worth it if you know you will need to use it. A good buy!

When I received the focusing rail I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality construction and smooth operation, bucking the current trend toward shoddy product construction. I found the focusing rail well worth the price if only used for its designed purpose. However, I have already found other uses for the focusing rail. Backing up the camera slightly until the lens nodal point was near the pivot point of the tripod increased the quality of conventional panoramas. Also, the smooth lateral movement of the focusing rail when combined with the vertical motion of the tripod head made stitching photographs of macro subjects easy. Finally I am looking forward to use using the precision lateral motion of the focusing rail for experimental 3-D photography.

This focusing rail makes it easy to fine-tune focus for macro shots. Precise adjustments are no problem, it adjusts both forward/backward and from side to side, and can be locked into place. I know there are more expensive focusing rails, but I don't see how they could do a better job. I'm very satisfied.

Just bought a macro lens so I needed a rail for accurate macros. I saw one in a hi 3nd photo shop it was super expensive. Then I saw this one (for less than 1/2 the price) and ordered it. I was very surprised and pleased at how solid and well made this thing is. It traverses forward and backward and side to side very smoothly.

I do a lot of macro photography and use a DSLR. Before purchasing this focussing rail moving the camera when mounted on a tripod tended to be hit or miss. Miss the right position and you have to fiddle with the tripod position.

With the focussing rail I only need to turn some dials to fine tune the camera position. Highly recommended for photographers using a DSLR that shoot macro work with a tripod. The price is right and you get more than you pay for.

It is not stable enough for a medium format or larger camera.

Having never invested in a focusing rail over many years of photography. I was first surprised at their high cost. Finding the low cost Budget Focusing Rail Set from Adorama allowed me to try a this useful tool at an afordable price. It is well constructed and makes focusing in Marco shots a pleasure. Stability, ease of adjustment and precision are good -- and excellent at the price. It's great to have 2 axes of adjustment. The locking knobs are small and sometimes a tight reach. Used with D200 & 60mm AF-S from about 1:4 to life-size. Heavier gear might need a stronger set of rails.

Works fine for horizontals. The geometry and stability don't work well for verticals, so I'm shopping for an "L" bracket to cover those.

To me this gizmo has one and the only purpose - precise positioning camera on tripod. But because of bad fit between rails and almost impossible to tight fixing screws in position this unit is not good for me!
