Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint F-2560 Carbon Fiber Monopod, 4 Section Leg, Supports 11.0 lbs., Maximum Height 55".:

It's "decent", it's light, and price is right. I've been using it with a RSS monopod head for various purposes...lecturers, concerts, landscapes, macros, travel, museums where you can't use a tripod. It's a niche product, not for everyone. Good monopod for a casual user, but not sturdy nor reliable enough for regular or pro use. It's a bit wiggly, joints sometimes slip, and the stud screws into PLASTIC threads. Also, the case fell apart after a few uses. I'm planning to get a cheap head and leave this monopod in my car for those unplanned killer sunsets. I'm replacing it with a Gitzo 2-series monopod in CF or Basalt for regular use with the RSS head. I've got Gitzo 2-series and 3-series tripods and they are superb in every way (except a bit expensive).

Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint F-2560 Carbon Fiber Monopod, 4 Section Leg, Supports 11.0 lbs., Maximum Height 55".:

This is a nice sturdy monopod. The joints can slip some, though, if not snugged up quite tightly. With practice I could get the right tension without too much trouble but it slips quite often for my wife. I wish it would lock in place better with less effort.

The product comes with a wide loading plate. This was fine when used with a camera but got in the way of the adjustment knob on the Giottos MH 1304 ball head I bought to use with it. Fortunately the F-2560 came with a wrench that allows flipping the mounting screw to change between 3/8 and 1/4 mounts. I removed the loading plate and mounted the ball head directly on the mounting screw. This left the ball head in a vulnerable-looking position and let the strap move around too freely. I removed the ball head and placed a standard hose washer over the screw between the strap and the ball head. This works great. The ball head and strap are solidly mounted and the adjustment knob on the ball head is easy to get to. I think the unit should be sold with a spacer made for this purpose and directions on how to configure it for use with a small ball head. I attached a photo of the final setup showing ball head above the hose washer.

The rubber cover on the metal spike at the bottom works well. I'm glad I have it for indoor work.

As noted by other reviewers, the monopod does not fit in the case if the ball head is attached. My solution for this one? I don't use the case.

Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint F-2560 Carbon Fiber Monopod, 4 Section Leg, Supports 11.0 lbs., Maximum Height 55".:

[...]The monopod works very well. Each section locks well and I have used it as a walking stick for walking over rough terrain. It is a great stability provider for a longer lens and I have taken many photos at 300mm and longer with good results. It is not as overall steady as a tripod (obviously)but it is so light that sometimes it's a good alternative. It comes with a zip up case and this was disappointing. On the very first use the zipper broke an rendered the case usless.

It is compact enough to take to events and sit in the bleachers and adjust to the perfect height-- I have used others that didn't extend low enough for me to use while seated. Although it is unusually skinny, it holds my Nikon D300 with a 80-200 f2.8 or 80-400 lenses just as steady as any other I've used.

Comments about Flashpoint Flashpoint F-2560 Carbon Fiber Monopod, 4 Section Leg, Supports 11.0 lbs., Maximum Height 55".:

Looks cool with the carbon fiber, does the job nicely but could be lighter - an aluminium monopod with a lighter weight rating is the same weight or ligher and most people don't need a monopod rated at 11 lbs, I would appreciate one rated at 5 or 6 lbs that is even lighter - but this one works well and is a great value for a carbon fiber unit. The grips on the locking collars to adjust height take some getting used to as they feel strange in the hand, but they work well - I would prefer textured rubber than these rubber fins, but that's a minor point.

I use this with the F2 ball head and have been very happy. The leg sections extend easily and are secured just as easily. The dual function tip also works fine. Not only do I use the monopod to take shots of the kid's soccer games, I also used it on a two day trip to NYC. (It was light enough to allow me to take self portraits at all the sites!) I wish the included case was made big enough to hold a ball head though. And had straps or slots to make it easier to attach to a backpack.

I bought this because it was so cheap for carbon fiber. If you have an image-stabilized camera/lens, I'm not sure it's worth the trouble since, being a monopod, it won't stand by itself. It also won't double as a hiking staff. Best for cameras without stabilization.

Light and strong. Good quality. Could be shorter but it is still easy to carry in luggage and in the field. I tried a few other (mostly aluminum) and I like this one the best. For carbon fiber, you cannot find a better one at the price.

I've tried three different tripods in the past - the cheap, the solid and the expensive - and then I found this via a gushing review in one of the photo magazines.

Skeptical, but hopeful, I purchased before a 7 day cruise to Alaska - and I was actually blown away by how well it works.

Definitely stable, definitely easy to expand and contract, and definitely a great buy under $100.

I would HIGHLY recommend this to my family, my friends and anyone who wants pro quality at a very reasonable price....

This is a monopod that you will probably never sell, unless it is an estate sale. I can hold the base in one hand, and easily adjust the length of the leg with the other. The "locks" are easy and precise. The base has adjustable foot for spike or rubber platform. The construction is almost as good as my Gitzo GT2530EX carbon fiber tripod. For the price, it's close enough. After a few miles of walking, you will appreciate the light weight. When you use it, you will appreciate the solid construction. Don't buy three crappie monopods, as I did, before you buy this one. It has given me confidence with my Canon 2.8 EF 70-210mm, plus the 2X extender for field work.

I'm going to France in one month, right after having had my shoulder replaced two weeks ago. I'm only taking a 8MP point and shoot Samsung S850 and I have assignments to shoot while there. Since I needed a monopod to try this camera, I shot some action, kids and macro work as a test. Great results and without the monopod it would have been impossible.

Great monopod, I should have bought it sooner.
