I plan on using this in place of a tripod for backpacking. But it is not a replacement. For very important photos you will still need a tripod.

Just what I've looking for. Have 3 tripods, pain to set up for temporary shots. This is easy to open, it stands and adjusts to the height I need, and works especially well with the Manfrotto Action Ball Head [great combination for when steady shooting is needed].

This product is great it's light enough to carry for a long time. I carried mine for hours around the Chicago, zoo and didn't get the least bit tired of holding it. However you need to hold it steady while using on windy days and if on ground that isn't level. Mine also didn't rattle like the other poster stated his did mine doesn't rattle at all. I also like the fact that I was able to stand it in places a tripod could not fit.
Bogen-Manfrotto are the greatest and so is Adorama.

Good Construction if you want a club to ward off an angry mob. The internal spokes rattle and bang around when you are moving the monopod. So using for wildlife in the field is not an option. Unstable on the spokes with a camera mounted on it. HEAVY!!! Packing this BEAST you might as well carry a studio tripod. It will weigh less and offer more flexibility in the field... Disapointing product for Bogen (I am usually a fan)
