Comments about Giottos Giottos MH-657 Quick Release Arca Style Clamp Camera Mounting System with MH-647 Camera Plate:
I have a p40 plate on my 500mm for my gimbal head, and needed more support for occasional use on my monopod and giottos MH1301. Not wanting to keep changing plates, I opted for this sturdier head/plate on my MH1301 head and by removing one safety screw from the p40 this head allows me to slide the p40 and lock it down. No more plate changes!
Of course you always have to be very careful with a ball head and a heavy lens. Both my lens and camera are secure with straps. Nice set up for surfing photography when you don't want your tripod in the sand. This set up works well for now.

This is a neat plate. It has that Arca-Swiss thing going on and grabs and releases with ease. Nice to have two or more connected to lenses and other camera bodies because, it can be somewhat annoying to have to screw the plate to cameras and lenses back-and-forth.
