Bought many years ago when it was much cheaper. Compact unit. Finish holding up. Friction controls nearly useless. Creeps when locking down. Action not smooth. Would not buy again at present price.

This is my first ball head and I'm still getting used to it. But so far, so good. I have a Canon Rebel Tli and it seems to hold it very well, even with a 70-300 lens.

I wanted a nice, solid ballhead with levels for landscapes. I personally like to be able to setup quick and get to shooting when the opportunity arises and I really like the quickrelease on this ballhead. It feels very solid and easy to setup - the latch stays open and closes automatically when the camera/plate is put in place. Very solid connection.

Comments about Giottos Giottos MH-1001 Pro Medium Ball Head with Independent Panning Lock and Built-in MH652 Quick Release - Supports 17.6 lbs:

I installed this on a Slik U212 Tripod that I've had for about 25 years. It works great and I don't know what some were talking about with the clamp breaking. Everything is metal and the head is very fluid in movements and I don't have any stability problems. I thought I might have an issue with mounting it on this older tripod, but the reducer worked fine. The only con might be that the three levels are small and they might make them bigger but the only time I use them is when I'm doing panoramas and stiching photos together.

I have this mounted on a Manfrotto tripod. The combination is great. I can make adjustments quickly and accurately, with one hand on the camera and one on the head. Occasionally I use the built in levels and they work fine. I've been using it for sunset and night shots for longer exposures with great results.
