Comments about Velbon Velbon QHD-61Q Heavy Duty Magnesium Ball Head with Quick Release, Maximum Load 12.1 lbs., (5.5 kg):

Having not seen many comments on Velbon products I thought I'd go out on a limb and give their brand a try. After owning a Sherpa 600 tripod for some time I decided it was time to do away with the pan-head and gain the flexibility of a good ball mount. I decided to stick with the Velbon brand to match my tripod and so far I am glad I did. I have only owned this mount for less than a week but so far it has been fantastic. It locks good and solid and seems to be more than sturdy enough to hold the weight of my Nikon D90, which is fairly heavy with all the extra's including the battery grip, zoom lens, and flash all mounted to the camera. It holds the camera rock solid in any position. The only reason I gave it four stars rather than five was because I felt that it needed just a little more range of motion. For example, if I am adjusting the camera vertically it dont allow me much margin on the sides to level the camera to the horizon for my shot but, it is sufficient for my needs and allows just enough movement that it has not been an issue when leveling.

In the end yes, I would recommend this mount. I have been well satisfied with Velbon products and I will continue to use them.
