I mount my Canon XL-S camcorder on this. Horizontal rotation is smooth. To make the vertical tilt stable, the tilt resistance must be increased. Why? The mount surface is above the tilt axis. A mounting slot enables me to balance the XL1 for one tilt angle, e.g., horizontal. A change in the tilt angle during a shoot shifts the center of weight of the camera causing a torque. Vertical tilt remains stable provided that I set the tilt resistance high enough. Although doing smooth vertical pans with my larger cameras is going to take practice because of this, I am pleased with this affordable mount.
