Comments about National Geographic National Geographic Tundra Tripod with Ball Head:

Very nice tripod for a lightweight, point-and-shoot camera. It's not substantial enough for an SLR/DSLR. Folds to only 17 inches but will extend to a full 6 feet tall. Made by Manfrotto so carries that good reputation. "Ball Head" is a bit misleading. While it has a ball head, it has no handle so aiming and locking the camera in position is a bit fiddly. Tripod is constructed so that the head can be mounted hanging down inside the tripods legs - great for shooting close-ups or using it as a copy stand.
If it had a handle on the head and if it were a bit more substantial, I'd give it 5 stars. However if this tripod fits your needs, as it does mine, I highly recommend it.

Comments about National Geographic National Geographic Tundra Tripod with Ball Head:

I really like it being light, and sturdy for a light tripod. Quick to set up and take down. Under windy conditions a weight could be helpful. Overall, a great tripod and decent quality for the price. But national geographic is a respectible and well known group.

Nice metal parts, TERRIBLE plastic parts
By JackoVerified Reviewer from Sydney Australia on 11/17/2010

Comments about National Geographic National Geographic Tundra Tripod with Ball Head:

Nice light small tripod for small cameras but plastic bits fall apart even without hard use. If metal bits kept, very strong plastic used, would be a nice portable tripod.

Bought for my granddaughter (12) to use with new point and shoot digital. It's the right size and weight for her and does a good job for her. If you need something to handle a light point and shoot, you can't beat it for the price.
For my personal preference, I'll take my carbon fiber - but that cost 10 times as much.

Comments about National Geographic National Geographic Tundra Tripod with Ball Head:

I needed a decent tripod that would fit in my motorcycle saddlebags and this one is perfect. I use a high end point & shoot with this tripod so weight is no problem (I use a heavier one with my DSLR).

If you are thinking of using this tripod as I do, purchase an aftermarket case; the NG unit though very rugged and exceptional, makes the package to large to fit in motorcycle bags.

SLRs Beware
By TylerVerified Reviewer from NM on 4/8/2009
Pros:
Gets low to the ground
Best Uses:
Point-N-Shoot camera
Describe Yourself:
Pro Photographer
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about National Geographic National Geographic Tundra Tripod with Ball Head:

I made the mistake of buying this tripod, I though it would be cool to have something that would get really close to the ground. This tripod is not stable enough for a heavy camera and fell over taking my camera to the ground. It was my own fault for thinking this thing could support my camera, so SLR owners, spend the money on a good tripod. I bought a Manfrotto head + pod and have never been happier.
