Comments about Giottos Giottos GB Series Black Pro Classic 2 Section Tripod Legs, 23" Max Height, with Case:

I have been wanting to buy a mini tripod for a long time but their price is the same as normal size tripod. Finally I came across this one on specials from Adorama with the price I couldn't resist. I own several Giottos tripods of the MT series so I have something to measure with.
This GB series is apparently an older series.
The leg finish appears coarse and lack of refinement, definitely not as good as their MT series. The center column is short, it only extends about 0.5". It makes me question why they bother to have a center column at all. The tripod will go very low to the ground. Minimum height from ground to head platform is 4.5". This is great for macro and low angle photography.
With only 1 leg segment, the tripod is 12" height. With the 2nd leg segment extended, the tripod is just pass 18" height from ground to head platform. Folded length is 13". The compass is non functional. The bubble level is useful. The head platform is well made. Each leg has a non-slip foam, useful when you have to hold and use the tripod in cold condition.
Other things I really like about Giottos tripods are that they include a nice padded case, tripod strap, and tools with case.
If you are looking for a mini tripod for travel, hiking, tabletop/product photography, you can't go wrong with this tripod. You can't find a cheaper price for a full-feature tripod that can handle full-size ballhead and DSLR + lens.
Btw, I also bought an MT9240 which has a better finish and overall aesthetic look.

It is too small, and it lacks flexibility to perform more than the simple task of suporting the camera.
