Moved up from a 20d to the 5d and wanted a wide angle. This is the lens to get if you can afford one. The 17-40 is the other. Images are sharp as a tack out to the edges. The 2.8 really helps focusing speed, although I have started using manual lately to fine tune my sweet spot. This has become the lens I keep on the camera replacing my 28-135 IS. You can do some crazy things with scenic and portrait shots. Haven't come up with any negatives yet, except maybe if it were longer reach- say 50.
