This lens is incredibly sharp. Its incredibly affordable. Don't let anything dissuade you from buying this lens unless you have the 50mm F/1.4 or poor vision + a D40 (in which case, upgrade your camera and buy this lens). This lens is THE general use lens. It has great bokeh, great contrast, great low light abilities, great price, low abberation, no distortion, blah blah blah. The list goes on and on. Moving up to this lens from my 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 was a revelation
