I bought these in December 2008. In July 2009, the volume control started cutting in and out like there was a short. You had to fiddle with it to get the sound to come back. I decided to try to send them back, but school started and I never got around to it. Well, last week (October 2009) the left ear phone just snapped right off. The thing is metal... except for this plastic piece holding the ear phone on - how much sense does that make?
I really loved these headphones. However, I am wary of buying another pair and having this happen again. I guess I will have to get another brand. Everything was great with them until the short. I mean, it only took 7 months for these to begin to fall apart. I use them 3 times a week during the semester on my way to class, and during the summer maybe once a week. That is NOT heavy use!
By the way, these were a bit more expensive when I bought them. Ugh!

These have a great sound and do seem effective at blocking out ambient noise. My only slightly negative observation is that they are tight. This is good for keeping them on your head at the gym, but if you leave them on too long it can give a user a headache.
