Comments about Electro-Voice Electro-Voice RE16 Wired Broadcast Quality, Variable-D Dynamic Super-Cardioid Microphone:

The former reviewer was correct and the RE-16 is just an RE-15 with an intregal pop filter. Artists should be counseled on the way to handle the mic if used for performance. It would never work for any stage "acrobatics" and should either be mounted in a shock mount or handled very gently. This drawback aside, the transparency of this mic is only achieved by the top condenser mics. You can't carry a U-87 around on stage. EV should put a sorbathane sleeve or something on the shaft to both cushion handling and leave vents open. To hear it in action, copy/paste [@] in the Utube search box.

Comments about Electro-Voice Electro-Voice RE16 Wired Broadcast Quality, Variable-D Dynamic Super-Cardioid Microphone:

the re16 is the same as the re15 the microphone "elvis" used..the re16 was also used on the track sang by elvis "always on my mind" does't get no better quilty than if elvis and countless other professionals often used to make the songs you hear today on the radio.

Comments about Electro-Voice Electro-Voice RE16 Wired Broadcast Quality, Variable-D Dynamic Super-Cardioid Microphone:

This mic outclasses almost everything in this price range. It is the legendary RE20 diaphragm in a smaller body and more pop filtering for stage use, with only slight sound compromise.

Like the RE20, the RE16 is an "everything" mic. It sounds great on vocals, acoustic guitars and other instruments, including piano or drums - for both sound reinforcement and recording.

Very natural, uncolored sound, more accurate and extended high frequency response than competitors. More detailed tonal response produces richer overtones for vocals or instruments. Sounds like a good condenser, but much more dynamic headroom, and often smoother highs. (Doesn't have that metallic, nasal sound typical of many condenser mics priced below $300.)

Absense of proximity effect means the tone does not get more "bass" sounding up close, but doesn't thin out further away either. So your vocal doesn't disappear when you turn your head to look at guitar, or effects, or another band member. (If you're hooked on prox. effect, you may not like this mic, but your voice will sound better than with virtually any mic under $300.)

Accurate, flat high frequency response means higher gain before feedback.

Bullet-proof construction.

Check Adorama's used section for used RE16's. They've been around for a long time for a reason.

Sound techs: This mic is almost completely free of off-axis coloration. Consequently leakage is clean and solid sounding, instead of boxy and muddy like a lot of mics that appear to have tighter patterns.
