I'm sure this mic sounds great, but unfortunately the external mic pre-amp on the D7000 is noisy, so it wasn't worth using it.
I ended up buying the Rode NTG-2 and now use a Zoom H4n to record audio.
Having to sync in post means an extra step, but it's totally worth it!

Comments about Rode Microphones Rode VideoMic, On Camera Directional Condenser Microphone with Shoe Style Shock Mount.:
The video from my DSLR is GREAT, but the sound is NOT. The in-camera mic picks up all kinds of camera noise and wind noise, plus it provides a weak sound track. The sound quality of the Rode is very good and the shotgun style gives a strong volume sound track to work with. If you're going to mount the mic in the DSLR "hot shoe" the mount location need to be changed, but that is easily done. Now that I have the Rode, I don't shoot video without it.

So far it is working great on my 5D II. I had to shift it to one end so I could look with the viewfinder. Sound quality is great.

Fantastic mic. Has switchable attenuator and high pass filter. High pass filter works great. Sound quality is very clear. With the mic inside my car with the windows down, barely any windnoise or vehicle noise. Highly recommended.
