Comments about Canon Canon VFL-1 Video Flash Light, Combination Video Light and Flash Unit, for use with the Advanced Accessory Shoe.:

This is a simple add-on for the Canon Camcorders. It attaches easily in the shoe on the camera. You can switch from light to strobe with a side switch, and off is an option as well, where it sometimes is not in others I've seen. I hate red eye and this strobe being higher than the built-in one is better and a bit more powerful. This light is a boon for the stills I take.
Very happy with the product.

Comments about Canon Canon VFL-1 Video Flash Light, Combination Video Light and Flash Unit, for use with the Advanced Accessory Shoe.:

This video flash light has OK performance for flash and poor light performance for video. The existing flash on the camera is aside of the lense and therefor you would see a shadow of the subject when taking a photo. This VFL1 flash video light is fixed on the top of the camera and in-line with the lense so you would not see a shadow.

If you want more light for video, I think I would not use it. It makes a circle light on the object which is not natural. I think I would prefer a litle bit noise in low light video rather than a spot light only on the subject.
