I am a Production Mixer in the Movies and I wanted to get more into Full Production. So I bought a used EX-1 (Sony). Now the SxS cards are great , robust, you can over and under crank the camera (fast or slow motion...but how often do you do that?)and they get the job done - I have a 16GB SXS card (but wanted more card time for interviews and the like). Down side is that they are expensive compared to these MxR cards . Plus you need a card reader or a computer that has an express slot. Neither do I have or want to purchase. Now these little babies are great. They take SDHC cards, are inexpensive and reliable, easy to get a replacement SDHC card (compared to a SxS card)if you need to pick one up when traveling and so far, durable. Like anything in life they are not perfect and it is stated that they do not let you "crank" the camera on them. But for straight forward recording, being easy on the budget and total ease of use...Brilliant!

I use the cards for everything-- shoots on location and in the studio. For very long events, like concerts, where the cards enable me to never stop rolling, I just swap out the cards in my Sony EX1-R HD video camera.

The cards have saved me a lot of money and are very affordable. I had 3 cards for several months and never had a problem. But lately, the 4th card I bought has been unreliable, corrupting files, not always reading, then last week it just stopped working all together. And I know it's not the SDHC cards I'm using inside it, cause I swapped them into my other 3 MxR readers and they worked fine, so it must have been a defective MxR reader. I sent it back and Adorama was generous enough to replace it.

I have no complaints so far. Just 1 bad card out of 4 cards. Not too bad, but still, very frustrating to lose files on a shoot.
