Comments about IDX IDX On-Camera LED Video Light with 35 watt Output, with Power Tap Connector:
I often do events like weddings, etc., that take place in poorly lit rooms. The previous light I had used a 35 Watt halogen bulb, which was plenty bright, but it ran through batteries in a big hurry. Also, it was not dimmable, which meant most of the time it was too bright to shine in people's faces.
The IDX X3 light uses only 11 Watts and will run for over an hour on the same battery the previous light drained in 15 or 20 minutes. Also, it is dimmable, which means I can adjust the brightness as needed for a given situation. The LEDs themselves are supposed to last just about forever, so there is no need to worry about the bulb burning out and needing to have a spare on hand.
One thing that you kind of have to adjust to, though, is the unnatural bluish color of the light. To your eye, it doesn't look right. However, to your camera, if you set the white balance appropriately, it will look more normal. I still think halogen lights look better overall, but the high effeciency of the LED light makes it far more practical to use in a situation where you don't want to be tied to a wall outlet for power and don't want to haul around 20 lbs of batteries to be able to run your light.
