For the price this is an excellent value. Very familiar with Canon Digital camera line and lenses, so choosing a video camera with Canon features like Image Stabilzation and Flourite lens was a natural choice.
Primary use is as a tripod-mounted, single camera recording of auditorium /theater events from the control booth. Excellent low light images and solid stereo audio.
Produces excellent SD (DV) and HDV images and packed with numerous control features on the camera itself plus additional menu customization simlar to Canon's digital camera.
The only minor con is Canon's computer CONSOLE interface software is not included unlike its digital camera line which is bundled with Digital Photo Professional, Zoom Browser, etc. I still rate the camera itself 5-stars but the software would have been a plus.
