-mail or Twitter account to let you know you’re in a hotspot. If you Twitter, Eye-Fi will tweet your followers every time it uploads new images to your Flickr account. It’s developments like this that have earned Eye Fi placement in the Time Magazine Top 10 Best Gadgets of 2008.

For details, read the Eye Fi press release:

You can now add fun features to your Eye-Fi Card – some are even free!

Have you ever wanted to add geolocation or open hotspots to your Eye-Fi Home, Share or original Eye-Fi Card? Now you can.

You can add geolocation or hotspot access, or both, to any Eye-Fi Card (other than Eye-Fi Explore, which already has all these features built-in). Simply insert the card into the Eye-Fi card reader, and log into the Eye-Fi Manager. Click on Settings, and choose any service upgrade. Once your payment is confirmed, your card will include the new functionality. It’s that easy!

Have you ever wanted to know when your photos have started uploading, and when they’re done, without looking at your computer? Now you can.

Your Eye-Fi Card uploads images as soon as it is within range of a known wireless network, or an open hotspot (if you have the hotspot access service enabled). But if you walk into an open hotspot or a Wayport hotspot, how would you know if the card started to upload your photos? All you need to do is to set-up Notifications. In the Eye-Fi Manager, under Settings, you will see a free service that is labeled “Notifications”. Click on it, and set-up either text-based notifications to your mobile phone, or e-mail, or even Twitter updates. With Notifications turned on, you will never again need to guess if an open hotspot is really open, and if your photos have started to upload. This feature will change the way you use your Eye-Fi Card. If you’re using Twitter, the people that are following you would love to see the tweets that you have recently uploaded photos to share.

Last but not least, we would LOVE to win the TIME Magazine contest for the Best Gadget of the year. We’re honored to be among the 9 other cool devices.
