Studio and on-location photographers will be able to capture the best of any moment thanks to the compact and powerful Profoto D2 — the world’s fastest monolight. Bursting up to 20 flashes per second and flash durations up to 1/63,000 of a second, it’s perfect for portrait, food, fashion, or sports photography. The D2 can be fully integrated with AirTTL flashes like the B1 and B2. It can also shoot at high-speed sync with shutter speeds up to 1/8,000 of a second.

Key Features:

  • Available in 500 and 1000Ws adjustable in 1/10 f-stop increments over a 10 f-stop power range to give you both power and precise control.
  • Bursts up to 20 flashes per second with flash durations up to 1/63,000 of a second.
  • High-Speed Sync up to 1/8,000s.
  • Shoot in TTL or manual mode.
  • Fully integrated with other AirTTL flashes like B1 and B2.
  • Built-in reflector for maximum output and minimizing of straylight.
  • High-resolution display with a superior, intuitive interface.
  • Optional Quartz flashtube for high volume packshot available.
  • Compatible with 120+ Light Shaping Tools from Profoto’s renowned light shaping system.

TTL and Manuel Mode

Available in 500Ws (D2 500 AirTTL) for $1,495 and 1000Ws (D2 1000 AirTTL) for $1,995, the D2 shoots in TTL or manual mode. This allows you to create dynamic lighting situations when used with the B1 and B2. For example, you can set the D2 in manual mode to light a background and set your other lights in TTL as main flash. High-Speed Sync (HSS) is available in both manual and TTL modes.  Thanks to the D2 shooting up to 20 flashes per second, you’ll be able to freeze fast subjects with stunning clarity. One swift jump will produce 20 mid-air exposures to choose from. Freeze a splash of water with captivating sharpness.

The D2 is also available from in Duo Kits that include two monolights and power cables. The Profoto D2 Duo Kit 500/500 retails for $2,995, while the Profoto D2 Duo Kit 1000/1000 retails for $3,995.

HSS Feature

For those photographers seeking creative control of lighting, the HSS feature (1/8,000 of a second) allows you to shoot with a large aperture setting in bright conditions. At that speed, you won’t miss a frame of action. In terms of output, the D2 at full power will overpower natural sunlight, or fully illuminate a larger Light Shaping Tool.  Both the 500Ws and the 1000Ws are equipped with a super wide 10 f-stop energy range.

Compact Size

One of the best features of the D2 (besides speed, of course) is how compact and convenient they are to take on any shoot. As self-contained flash units, you won’t need to have a separate generator and a number of flash heads.  The D2 Monolight has its own mains powered built-in power source.

If you are a professional commercial photographer  looking to add speed and versatility to your photography gear arsenal,  the D2 is the flash you have been waiting for.

Firmware Update as of August 11, 2022

At the end of August 2022, Profoto will launch a new firmware update and all existing D2 and D2i units will include 100 channels of radio control, Absolute Power Feedback, and compatibility with the new Profoto Control Desktop App. These are features that are already available in Pro-11, B10 series, A10, and A2.
