Nikon reports that the first floor of all buildings in a massive industrial park in central Thailand, including its own facility, are under water and as a result, all production has been suspended. Flood waters burst through a temporary defense around the Rojana Industrial Park, which is located 42 miles north of Bangkok, where Nikon’s factory is located. It is one of 198 factories in the area to be affected, with other companies including Sony and Honda. Over 90,000 people work in the industrial park.<\/p>\n

The deluge and flooding have killed 269 people, and are threatening Bangkok.<\/p>\n

Nikon’s DX-format DSLRs have been produced in Thailand, as well as some lenses, since 2009; according to Reuters, Nikon can not predict when production will resume.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Sony reports that Sony’s A77 and A65 SLT camera deliveries may be delayed because the flooding has made roads leading to and from its factory impassible according to techradar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The following is Nikon’s official announcement regarding the flooding and suspention of production.<\/p>\n

Nikon (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a consolidated subsidiary of Nikon Corporation in the Rojana Industrial Park in Ayutthaya Province located in Central Thailand, is submerged by the flood caused by torrential rainfall since last July.<\/p>\n

The latest situations at Nikon (Thailand) Co., Ltd. are as follows:<\/p>\n

1. DamagesThe 1stfloor of all buildings at the premises are presently submerged. Details of the damages are now under investigation. As for the employees, the human damage has not been reported so far. The factory is suspending its operation since October 6.<\/p>\n

2. Estimated impact to our business performanceWe are now doing our utmost to estimate the impact of the flood to our group companies and business performance. We assure you to immediately advise the findings once it is judged there will be an important change in our forecast.<\/p>\n

3. RecoveryWe are continuing to investigate details of the damage, but are unable to predict how soon operation will be resumed. We will set up our recovery support system and endeavor to restart its operation as early as possible. We are now requesting drainage of the industrial park to the Thai government, together with the Rojana Industrial Park authority, other companies in the Park and Japan External Trade Organization.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
